JEEP LIBERTY 2004 4WD HIGH-RANGE DASH LIGHT

The High-Range dash light is on when the 4-wheel option is off. When I left the lever into the high-range 4WD. the dash light goes out! This just started this past weekend when I mistakenly pulled the 4WD lever up instead of the parking brake.

  • gallagherr Jan 06, 2009

I played with the lever last night. I managed to geet the light to correspond with the true position. Although, it intermittently DOES pop back on (and off) for a moment intermittently.

  • gallagherr Jan 07, 2009

Thanks much! yes, I ran the lever thru it's positions and it improved the dash-light issue.

I see this alot. you need a new T-case position sensor. it runs about 70 bucks at a dealer

yea what happens is the detent ball in the sensor gets dirt and metal particles stuck in if from the transfer case fluid and soetimes if you lucky, shirfting it from 2wd all the way to 4wd L and back a few times can free it up for a few thousand miles

The New Venture Gear (NVG) 261, RPO NP2 transfer case is a two-speed, part-time with "mode shift-on-the-fly" capability. It has a chain driven front output shaft and an epicyclical low range planetary arrangement. The NVG 261 transfer case features a four position shift lever control located in the vehicle floor plan. As required, the operator can select 4HI position from 2HI "on-the-fly," as described in the owners manual. A dash 4WD lamp will continue flashing during shifting, until all criteria have been met and the new mode/range position has been reached. Once the new mode/range position is fully engaged and the front axle disconnect locks in, the dash light 4WD indicator lamp will remain ON constantly. Range shifting functions similarly, although it should be limited to speeds 8 km/h (5 mph) or less.

Four wheel drive engages and kicks out, light comes on and stays on and then kicks out the transfer case shifter

I would suspect you have a bad wheel speed sensor or a speed sensor defective... do you have an ABS/CheckEngine/4 wheel drive light on somewhere on the vehicle display... That might help fix the problem.

My 06 grand cherokee laredo has a 4x4 emblem on the vehicle, and a traction button on the dash, how do I operate the 4x4?

Your jeep should have full time four wheel drive. To place the transfer case in low range look down to the console towards the rear and you will see a "T" shaped handle. To place it into low range you should stop place the vehicle into park and lift the T handle and in the dash a 4X4 indicator lamp will light up. The traction button on the dash would be used in 4 wheel high mode when you start to experience wheel slippage upon take off from a stopped position. This will give you a little more control. You only need to use the low range for very slow speeds in mud or snow. Otherwise just leave it in high range because it is always using 4 wheel drive. This is a very reliable system which Jeep has refined over the years. Your Grand Cherokee is not designed fro hard core off road use. Hard core off road use will destroy the undercarriage. The Grand Cherokee is more of a luxury soccer mom 4X4 with good road manners, a comfortable ride, and good reliability.

I have 2001 Merc 430ML what is the Low Range botton mean?

low range means you are in 'low range 4 wheel drive' push the button while the engines running and the gear shift levers in neutral to switch to high range [or 2x4] low range, cannot drive over 15 miles per hour, high range can drive up to 65 miles per hour. see the difference? you need to shift the transmission to neutral, while the engines running, and your foot on the brake pedal, push the button on the 4x4 to light up to the two wheel or rear wheel diagram. then when it lights up the 2 rear wheels, it's in rear wheel drive. if this does'nt describe your problem! please do not attempt anything and call toll free# for mercedes roadside assistance for free at 1-877-815-9962 these people have been a great asset to my buisness. thank you for choosing fixya.com

I don't know how to get my 2001 kia sportage into four wheel drive

On small shift behinde gear lever there is 3 settings. H4 = 4 wheel drive high range, L4 = 4 wheel drive low range, h2 = 2 wheel drive high range. as soon as jou engage to 4 wheel drive a green light on the dash board will appear to indicate that the car is in 4 wheel drive. if not check fuse - check air pipes at front wheels.
