My routine to check non-starting motors: (petrol/gas models)
Check immobilizer status
Check fuel supply -does it reach the fuel rail when starting. If not OK, check 12v supply to fuel pump when starting. If OK, fuel pump maybe dead.If not present, check fuel pump fuse and relay.
If fuel supply is OK, check spark ignition. If not OK, follow the supply circuit backwards to the ECM. Coils and/or ignition amplifier connector should have one 12v supply to it when ignition switch is on.
For Diesels with 'common rails' you can take same approach for fuel. No ignition testing possible. The diesel fuel pump still needs battery power. It will make some sound when IGN is on. If not, check ALL fuses and relays.
a 1997 c1500 doesnt have a carb it is fuel injected, you poured fuel into the throttle body. when you turn the key to the start position and you do not hear the fuel pump you could have a blown fuse. if not, all chevys have passlock a passive antitheft system that have locked the fuel system down. check some remote start companies on the internet you will find one with a wiring diagram, you can figure out the rest from there. its eas
CHECK IGNITION AND PCM FUSE.YOU COULD HAVE SHORT OUT PCM. IT CONTROL FUEL PUMP. CHECK FUEL PUMP RELAY.SCAN VECHICLE FOR PCM FAULT TO KEEP FROM SPENDING A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY.
Update? If the Motorhome has a carburetor, its pretty old and has a P30 chassis. Gm makes the truck, Honey makes the camper. Check the electric choke and make sure it has power to it when the engine is running, if not check all fuses. I dont have a diagram to see where the choke gets power from. Make sure the choke pull off is working, its a little vac can on the right side of the carb, if it leaks, it wont pull the choke flap open. Anyone that works on Quadrajet Carbs can fix it for you.
Check your vehicles safeties. Your ECM is probably programed for engine shutdown if it senses low oil pressure or low coolant level. Do a preliminary check.
