This could be many things. The motor is shot, the fuse is blown or the wire harness has worn out. The harness should have a disconnect point where the wire goes from the tailgate to the vehicle body.
Does it still have the tailgate lift cylinders? The power tailgate lift is designed to work with the cylinders, but it won't work if the cylinders have lost their pressure.
You should have a rod in the tailgate. Do you have automatic locking in the tailgate. If so you need to take the plates off the tailgate and look inside. If you go to autozone.com and register with them, they will give you all the instructions that you can view and print for FREE.
I have a similar problem, my tailgate stopped working with the outside handle and the remote but can be opened manually from the inside. I don't have an alarm so there is no problem with that but did you get a solution for the tailgate problem that I could try?
you have to get in behind tailgate interior trim and pull handle lever as this has come off from the actuator, once tailgate is opened remove panel and relocate actuator bar and you might want to cable tie bar in place for the future
Remove the interior trim panel which will not be easy since the gate is up ---- you can then access the lock mechanism and will probably find a bent linkage rod or a broken plastic retainer clip.
I had this problem with my E280 CDI (2007)
I coincidentally charged the battery and it now works. This may be nothing to do with it but the MB service dept did msay that some functions fail before others if the battery is flat.
