How do you disassemble the light housing in license plate
The lenses cover & the lenses housing snap in to place. There are plastic tabs on the sides of each.
Directions: Remove the license plate light housing, and disconnect the 2P connector from the light. Remove the lens from the light, and then replace the bulb. Install the light in the reverse order of removal.

They are on the same electrical circuit as your marker lights. You could have a bad ground at the license plate area.

The licence plate lights are in the same line as your tail light wiring assembly. I assume your tail lights are working or you would have got a ticket for that. The wire is either cut, broken or unhooked from the tail light wires (which usually are brown). If you can not find the problem, you can always run a new wire to the tail light wire from your licence plate wire. Then they should work.
Your other problem is that the license plate ground is rusty & not grounding, which would also not let them work, so you should probably check that first. Rick

Yes, there is a spear point style clip that is holding the assembly. Wrap a flat blade screwdriver with some masking tape (prevents paint scratches) and pry between the forward outboard corner of the brake light housing and the car body. You want to pry the assembly rearward.
