There should be a cable that runs from the back of your speedometer to the transmission. If you look on the engines side of the firewall you should be able to track it....it is one of very few cables that run into the transmission. NOTE: its a little thicker than most. At the transmission there will be a fastener of some sort holding it in. Unscrew it and check the end of the cable. If all seems well try attaching a drill to that end and have a buddy look at the gage to see if it shows speed when the drill is running ...if not then its either broken in the middle somewhere or came unhooked from behind the guage....if it does show speed then it was either not seated correctly to the transmission or the plastic tip (looks like plastic gear) on the transmission side of the cable it worn down too far. That tip is interchangeable for if you get bigger/smaller tires.
SOURCE: changing a fuel pump on a 1991 holden barina
The Fuel Pump is Inside the Fuel Tank. You will need to Trop the Fuel tank for this. Not an Easy Job by any Means.
SOURCE: Unleaded Fuel in a Diesel Engine
THERE is 2 ways to do it 1 take the tank out and drain it OR get a small 12volt pump as they fitted to a lot of English cars (Morris Minor Jag ) etc and fit a small fuel pipe 3/16" to both in let and out let and put the one with arrow to tank into tank and other end to a fuel drum (about same size as tank)and plug into 12v battery and let tank pump dry,
When you refill tank with Diesel add 1 ltr of petrol to full tank of Diesel it starts and runs 30% better.
If your dad tried to start it on petrol then undo INJECTOR pipes and spin over till Diesel comes out before you tighten injectors feed and starting engine.
Testimonial: "Quite helpful, think we might take the tank completly out, but whats the easiest way?"
SOURCE: how do i replace the gearbox of a holden VR?
Taking out the tail shaft from the rear diff but before pulling out of the gearbox Drain the oil from the box, take out the shaft,Take off the battery earth lead, and now the starter motor.and the bottom metal plate at the bottom of the bellhousing (should be 4 small screws. and undo the 4 bolts on the flywheel metal plate which hold the torque converter on to engine. undo the bellhousing bolts and the top hose on the radiator ,and the gearbox X member and let down g/box slowley and slide it off WITH converter on the box ,
When refitting the other box its all in the reverse of removal (ALL OF IT) as well as the converter on the gearbox before it goes in as it fits on the shaft and turn it around and keep going untill it slips into the 2nd lot of splines and in line with the bell housing face.(Do not damage the g/box seal).
Let me know how you get on , Aussie Ron
