SOURCE: my 2001 impala eemision light is on and won't pass

The problem could be as simple as replacing the gas cap or it may be a bad purge canister, there could be a stored code that will tell you more I am surprised the dealer didn't read the codes and tell you. To be sure take the car to Auto Zone and have them read the codes for you they do it for free. This should point you in the right direction provided a code is being stored.

SOURCE: drive time computer reset

Drive cycle has to do with normal everyday type of driving. So many stops, so many miles, fast driving, slow driving. My car went thru a drive cycle in about 38 miles on my way to work. My daughters took 3 days and about 78 miles. So just drive it like normal.

Got new battery for 01 mirage how many miles do i drive to reset computer to pass emissions test

computer re-calibrate in what is called a trip. One trip consist of starting car when engine is completely cooled off, driving until engine is at normal operating temp(temp gauge), turn off let engine completely cool again. Most cars take 3-5 "trips" to verify changes made. So i would play it safe and call it "5 Trips"

Clearing codes & data, has nothing to do with diagnosing
why you got the fault codes & fixing the problems

How would clearing a dash light help pass inspection?

Before you got down the street two houses, the light would
be back, the car has a failed system ,thus the light on the

You cleared all data, now a shop can't even work on it
You removed all vehicle history & codes

Flat bed it to a shop & they will make the repairs you neglected
to do, while trying to get hundred miles before the parameters
on a failed system went out of range & the dash light came back

Need to study OBD 2 Systems on the internet & leave the vehicle
work to the pros

The system has to see a wide range of conditions before a smog test can be done. On most brands you have to drive at least 50 miles, at various speeds including stop and go, let it idle for 5 - 10 minutes, and run at freeway speed for at least 25 miles. It also has to reach normal operating temp of 195 degrees.
