2002 Passat won't start

2002 VW Passat won't turn over but the lights, radio, etc work. Tried to jump it but it did not help. Wondering if it could be a fuse.

I drive a 2002 VW Passat Wgn. I started giving me trouble starting about 6 mos ago and has progressively worsened. I brought it to my local mechanic who tested it and suspected it was the starter. So after $500 two days ago and intermitent startings, I was at his gas station fillling up tonight when it just wouldn't turn over so I had to push it into a parking spot and leave my key so he can research and fix tomorrow. I don't think it's the starter or the clutch. you see its a manual transmission with $75000 miles on it. It never gave me trouble until 2 months ago when the pump behind the brake peddle broke and water accumulated in the line and I had NO BRAKES. That was fixes, then the front ball joint went. I'm trying to keep the car going for 3 more yrs with no more $$$ repair costs so I can turn in for a hybrid.
Mechanic said he tested all connections and result was the starter. But even with a new Starter of 2-days old it still WONT START....HELP.
    Thank you.

We had the same problem. It was an expensive fix--there apparently was a problem with the onboard computer that would periodically lock out the ignition circuit. Felt just like a bad starter solenoid--but the part cost $800, plus labor, to replace. Ouch.

2002 VW Passat won't turn over but the lights, radio, etc work. Tried to jump it but it did not help.

Have you tried checking to see if you have current at the starter? If not, check the starter relay and or fusable link.

I was wondering if you could give me some things to check on my van won't start and we tried jumping it. The lights all come on with full charge . So I was wanting to know if there is a reset button...

if u unplug your battery for acouple hours it will reset youre ecu/cpu. (everything) does it turn over? or absolutly nothing? if nothing sometimes ur battery loses so many electrolytes it can't retain a charge therefore jumping won't help. new battery first step! local junkyards probably have a good battery for $20. Let me know if this helps.

2002 VW Passat GLX AWD, stereo stopped working

HI,
Passats can be reset if the radio is pulled out and the fuse on the back is removed. Wait for 2 mins, reinsert the fuse and turn the radio on. If this doesn't work, please take it to the dealer for the unlocking of the code, for which he may charge you some fee.

Do let me know if it was helpful.

Our 2002 VW Passat 5 spd. Lights come on, but doors won't lock

it sounds like your computer went bad, somethings do not go to the computer like the radio and lights but all the sensors, ignition system, and locks witch im going to guess that you have a car alarm. if not even thow the computer tells all the locks to lock with one push of a button. you would have to take it to a garage theres a chip that has to be removed and put in the other inless the chip is the promblom but unlikely
