Ok.. I just purchased a 06 Dodge Magnum SXT from my brother w/ only 87,000 miles on it. But the problem is that the car barely turns over, and when it does it only runs for a few seconds and then stalls. The check engine light as well as the lightning bolt between ) ( is flashing. The battery is also dying on it so I have to get a jump every time I have something done to the car. 1st took it to my a recommended mechanic and he told me that the

Start with a good battery. Then try starting it and let it run for a few minutes if it will. Then retrieve the error codes by first, shutting off all accesories, then turn the key to "on"- without starting it. then "off" then :"on": then "off" and then back to "on" and leave it so the OBD can read out the error codes in the odometer location. You should see 3 or 4 codes. Write them down and address them in that order. Sometimes repairing one item will correct multiple codes. Doing the key thing should take less than 5 seconds before it starts to display the codes. It will read "Done" when it reaches the end.

Update: Ok, I went and bought a new battery & had it installed. Then I was able to finally pull codes by doing the "key dance" and 2 came up. P0688, & P2101. I know that the 2101 code is a thrttle body issue so I got mines cleaned 1st to see if I'll help but it's still cutting off on me plus the code is still coming up, so I've ordered another one. Now as far as the 0688 code I know its the ASD relay issue so I bought a new relay and I'm going to install it in the morning due to the fact its raining right now.. I'll keep you guys posted on what happens..

try over riding the starter relay on the fender ,it has one there right?. dont go to a mechanic yet. the engine aint seized. if it doesnt have this relay then i would get the alternator tested. if you want to test it yourself it can be costly for the right equip. autozone usually tests for free. i dont know were you live so if theres not an autozone. let me know if you cant get it tested.

Take throttle body off, clean Throttle Body with Carburator cleaner. I had same problem and its the ethynol in fuel that creates a build up in the throttle body which creates this problem. I did what a friend of mine said to do (service manager at Dodge Dealership) it hasnt happened again.

check to see if your tentioner spring loaded pulley is operating properly.
i.e. you can move it with hand pressure it can be to hard to move or too easy.
both can cause this problem. loosen or tighten the retainer bolt.

Take it to the dealer or a very knowledgeable, reputable mechanic, and be prepared to spend a lot of money for trashed electronic components.

Therm. is being held open causing the engine to not heat up to a full 190 degrees. make sure you put in a 190 degree therm. and unhook the negative battery cable for at least 5 minutes to clear the code. the system could need a flush too, with over 100,000 miles or 5 years

My 06 magnum sxt won't shift out of park, tried the release in the console. still no good, now I can't remove the key had to disconnect the battery,.

If its anything like my old VW car it may be the stearing lock thats preventing the car key from turning. Pull the stearing wheel one way as hard as you can then the other way then jiggle it while trying to get the key out of the ignition. Nothing to worry about, the lock in there just gets stuck sometimes.

Noise at strart

The tapping, I think, from the limited information, is the Valves not getting the Oil due to low oil pressure. Once the engine warms up, and the Oil pump starts to flow the oil, the tapping stops. Many vehicles, do this. I would not be overly concerned about the tapping, but I would be concerned about the coolant leak. An easy way to see if you have an external leak is to go to a local parts store, and purchase a leak test kit, which usually is a dye, which can be seen with a blacklight. Take vehicle to repair facility and have a Carbon Block Test done

Window problems with 2006 Dodge Magnum SXT

You may want to try and pull fuse 11 or unplug the negative battery terminal for 10-15 seconds and reconnecting/inserting.  You can also try a key dance to check for an internal errors, im not sure if a window motor would throw any however.
