The blend door that regulates the airflow over the heater core may be stuck in the AC position. It is inside the case and is most difficult to get to. There may be a YouTube video that may help you locate it and test it.

SOURCE: 2002 Mercury Sable heater does not heat up. It

There is a heater blend motor that is directly behind the dash panel, center, bottom, by the floor. It has four 5/16" screws, and a 6-pin wire connection in the center. It takes about 5 minutes to change it out and the part is $42, give or take a few dollars for taxes.

The blend door is what switches the air to hot or cold

Make sure coolant level is full.

I'd have to say it's the blower motor. Does it blow hot air when the heater is on?

Heater not working on 2002 mercury sable gs

first check the fuse to the blower motor. if good then it may be the blower motor may be bad it is under the dash on the passenger side. If that is good then it may be your heater core

I have an 2001 mercury sable Ls and i turn on my heat and there is nothing coming out like the fan isnt working. I tried it on a/c and it does the same. Everything is clicking on but i have no air coming...

check to see if your fan is working. feel for it working out of the vent, defroster, and floor mode. if nothing then check to see if the fuse is blown for the fan blower motor. if that is good then you will need to check for power at the fan itself. if you have power ther then the fan is bad if not you may have a problem with the switch or wiring. don't overlook the odvious and check to see if you have a cabin air filter that is plugged up, that can cause it too.

Antifreeze steam comeing through vents

Your heater core has a leak, it's like a small radiator that heats up and the blower motor blows air thru it to create heat in the car. It is leaking anti freeze into the heater box.

I have a 2002 mercury sable that heater will not get hot. last year replaced a stopped up heater core and it was fine all winter. this year replaced thermastat and blend air actuator. its warm but not...

Since your blower is working and it is a heat issue, thats where we'll start,First thing is have you checked the coolant level in the radiator when engine is cold, make sure it is filled to top, next verify you have coolant in reserve ,Start your van and get it up to normal operation temperature,If your heat gauge on the dash works correctly it should be 190 degrees,Now lift the hood and locate the two heater hoses going into the heater assembly at the fire wall,Both hoses should be hot to hold on to,if both are hot and no heat inside your problem will be the blend air door in heater assembly.
if neither hose is that hot you need to replace the thermostat in the engine to get it up to 195 degrees.
if one hose is hot and one is luke warm then the heater core is blocked and to blame. hope this helps you.

Hello. You are in luck. I just had this same issue in my shop this week. We changed the thermostat, and replaced the coolant. Fixed it right up. Since you did not mention a new thermostat, that would be my next move, if I were you.
