You said it was raining? It pays to have a look at the fuse box near the battery and check the fuses and connections for any trace of oxidation. I will suggest to have a chat to your local electrician.

IF YOU REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND UNPLUG IT,PLUG IT BACK IN AND UNPLUG IT AGAIN..DO THIS A FEW TIMES..IT SHOULD CLEAN OFF SLIGHT OXIDATION ON CONNECTOR TERMINALS..HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE..I ALSO THINK REPAIR CONNECTORS AVAILABLE FROM DEALER

SOURCE: i have a 98 ford escort zx2 fuel gauge, and tach

check youre fuses first,check in the fuse panel for dash fuse.that will help you.

i think vauxhall used the canbust system on this car and you cant cut into the wiring m8 you can buy a repair kit from internet but it might be expensive

Check the temp sensor wire that goes to the engine. They will short out to engine and make the dash do strange things.

I'm dealing with the same issues on mine: check the speedo cable is properly hooked up on the back of the instrument panel and at the sender on the transmission. Check your electrical connections and fuses are ok for all the other instruments.
