In the selection display AVG/ECO the AVG (average) reading has moved over to the ECO (economy) position, AVG position is blank. When the STEP button is pressed to advance to the ECO display only the correct ECO value is displayed. Is there any procedure for resetting the OH Display? Details

try unhooking the battery to see if resetting the body computer helps. low batteries and poor connections at the battery can cause weird problems like this

The real repair is to have the vehicle serviced by a Bentley dealer. The other option is as follows...Press and hold the trip button / While doing this, turn the ignition key into the on position / Let go of both, and you will see the words "service reset" on the drivers instrument panel screen / Now press the silver knurled roller switch "OK" on the right side of the steering wheel controls, by the menu button. This will confirm the request.
SOURCE: saab 9-3 trip computer SID with only partial display, fixable?
TRY THIS: http://www.saab9-5.com/howto/sidrepair.htm
That shows Step by Step info how to do it, and it looks promising, Im going to try that on my 9-5 Trip computer and Im sure the 9-3 has the same since Saab models from 1998 - 2003 have the same common problem, save yourself the money on a refurbished one, I got quoted $300 for a new one, why bother if I can fix it myself, and if I scew it up, then buy a refurb one,

This is a problematic module. It seems as though the soldering done on the module to complete the circuits was performed without taken into consideration that a vehicle on the road rolls over bumps, and gets warm and cold very quickly. All this points to this being your problem. The module itself is VERY expensive. This is not your only recourse. There are companies that repair these modules, for less than $50.00. [email protected] is the e-mail for David Ruhberg. He will repair the unit, and guarantees his work. To get the module out, there is one screw in the sunglasses compartment, holding the whole overhead console to the roof of the vehicle. Once it's removed, you need to lightly wiggle and pry the console until it comes separated from the friction catches. After that, remove the connector from the module, and remove the module from the console. The vehicle will run fine without the module.

The overhead console is quite prone to internal failure. Dim, intermittent, or dead displays are a common symptom of an internal failure. We offer a reasonable repair service with a lifetime guarantee. Check it out: www.autoclockrepair.com
There are five trip computer displays which may be stepped through by pushing the MODE button. The information will appear in the following order:
D AVG ECON (Average Fuel Economy): This shows the average fuel economy since the last reset.
D INST ECON (Instantaneous Fuel Economy): This shows fuel economy for the most recent second of driving.
D RANGE (Trip Range): This shows the estimated distance that can be traveled with the remaining fuel. The fuel economy used to calculate range is based on the last few hours of driving. When in a low fuel condition, LO is displayed.
D FUEL USED (Trip Fuel Used): This shows the accumulated fuel used since the last reset.
D AVG SPEED (Average Speed): This shows the average speed since the last reset.
