2002 Yukon water pump replacement

How do you remove the fan and clutch from the water pump? My pump has gone bad on my 2002 yukon and I have bought a duralast gold replacement from autozone. I have everything taken apart and ready reassemble but I cannot get the mech fan off the old pump to transfer to the new pump. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you,

Try hitting clutch fan nut three times with bar and hammer and use adjustable wench to turn other wise you will need two tools can borrow from dealer of a parts shop one to wold water pump pully other to turn clutch nut.

The fan blade screws on the water pump assembly. It's threaded, I can't remember if it's right or left, but it would be the opposite way the fan turns. No hammers necessary. There is a tool but once you know it's threaded you can figure it out. To make the job 100% easier take the 4 push pins out of the fan shroud and remove the top half, you'll have all kids of room and take the time to cut a piece of cardboard to protect your radiator.

How do i replace my water pump on a gmc yukon xl 2002

First you will need to remove your tension belt from all your pullies. This is usually done finding a pully that provides tension to and takes away from the belt. HINT: It will be one that doesnt have abunch of mechanical part atached behind it. After removing hte belt in the center of the motor about mid ways up there is a pully that has a hose runing behind it. The other end of the hose goes to the radiator. Well where this plugs into the motor is the waterpump. you more than likely will need to remove the pully from the pump. afd88a0.jpgAbove is a picture of your pump with the pulley removed. The four bolts in the center are how you disconnect the pulley and the four on the side of the pump are how you disconnect from the motor. Make sure when you get done and all back together to look around the new pump for leaks.
