Hey Derek,
When did the light first come on? Was the car Driving OKay before and after the light came on? How many miles on the car? When did you change the oil last? Has your car just reached a 100,000 mile mark or 150,000 mile mark? Your ECM has detected a fault somewhere or it just BURPED and needs to be reset. I need the answers to the questions from you. In order to help you find the problem. BUT, iF THE CAR RAN FINE BEFORE AND AFTER, IT MOST LIKELY JUST BURPED & ONLY NEEDS TO RESET OF FAULT CODES.

TO RESET YOUR ECM, DISCONECT THE NEGATIVE CABLE OFF THE BATTERY FOR ABOUT TWO HOURS. THEN RECONECT THE NEGATIVE CABLE BACK ON THE BATTERY TIGHT. RESTART YOUR CAR AND THE SERVICE LIGHT SHOULD BE OFF!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Have a 2014 renault Cleo, service due came up and a spanner light. How much further can I drive it as I've heard that they can stop altogether out of the blue is that true thanks Jeanette

Hi. Sorry but you have been misinformed. The "Service Due" message and the "Spanner Light". Are two related warnings that service is due. They will not go away until the needed service is performed. Upon completion, the dealership or repair facility will reset the warning system until the next service is due. The Spanner light is a reminder that service is needed now. If you ignore the warning service goes more over due, resulting in engine damage. There is another light called an Engine Warning Light. This lamp is an amber symbol of an engine. It is this light that may go out on its own if the ECU detects no failure.

98 Oldsmobile Aurora There's a on my Dash it says information center and has the oil fuel speed all that it says low oil is there any way anybody knows how to reset that

Check your engine oil using the oil dipstick located on the engine - you need to add oil to the fill line as shown on the dipstick. You should have the oil replaced regularly (every 3-6 months) and keep your eye on the level if the engine is leaking oil underneath or burning a lot of it.

How do I clear a service emissions message on a 2005 Mercury Mariner with a 3.0L engine. I have performed the required maintenance procedures at both 30,9000090's and 60,000miles. Still have message.

Warning Messages The warning messages can interrupt the display until cleared or reset by the driver. The warning messages are either single cycle, non-resettable, or repetitive warning messages.
The single cycle warning messages display once whenever the ignition switch is turned to the ON position or a fault occurs in a system, and can be cleared by pressing the RESET button. The single cycle warning messages are:
  • liftgate ajar
  • liftgate glass ajar
  • service emission system
  • low brake fluid
  • service brake system
  • check left headlamp
  • check right headlamp
  • check left turn lamps
  • check right turn lamps
  • check left high beam
  • check right high beam
  • check brake lamps
  • check parking lamps
  • washer fluid low
  • check fuel cap
  • change oil soon
  • change oil now
  • low fuel
  • service 4x4
  • turn signal on

2007 Volvo s80 2.4d automatic has messages and warning lights on the dashboard, messages are as follows:- on call service required, maintenance overdue, the warning lights are as follows:- ABS fault and...

This may very well be akin to what BMW did, where the car recognises when the service is due and has a series of lights as a countdown to remind the driver. If you ignore the service due warning, the ECU (electronic control unit) will display such lights as you have described and make it difficult to drive. With BMW the ECU shuts down completely. You may get around the problem by using a reputable mechanic, rather than the dealership; good luck.

How to reset service light

I think the following will work:

1 . Insert key into ignition barrel.
2 . Press and hold the Reset switch (located on the Trip Computer Switchpack).
3 . NOTE: The reset switch has to be released immediately after the ignition is switched 'ON'. This is critical to enable the rest of the procedure.
Turn the key to Ignition position II and at the point of entering Ignition position II (i.e when a click is heard), instantaneously release the Reset switch.
4 . Wait one second.
5 . Press and hold the Trip switch (located on the end of the left-hand side stalk).
6 . Wait one second.
7 . Press and hold the Reset switch (whilst still holding the Trip switch).
8 . The cluster should display (within three seconds) the warning message 'RESETTING SERVICE MODE'.
9 . Keep both buttons pressed until the warning message changes to 'SERVICE MODE RESET' (after ten seconds).
10 . Once the message is displayed the buttons may be released â€" sequence is now complete.
11 . If a Service Required message was displayed prior to the reset sequence, cycle the ignition to 'Off' and then back to Ignition position II and check that the message is no longer displayed.
