The compressor must be the problem based on the price of the repair.

For $700 it could be the compressor, leaking condensor or a hose, or all three. A big chunk of the cost is identifying the problem, evacuating the system and locating the leak. For an 02, the most likely cause it the condensor (in front of the radiator) has pin holes that leak refrigerant. A reputable shop can tell you in minutes if there is residual or no pressure in the system. Residual means a tiny leak, none means a hole. Have the shop attempt to evac and recharge the system. An evac and test takes about 30 minutes. If the vacuum holds, then they can recharge the refrigerant. Could be fine after that.
If there is a hole, then inspect the condensor. If it corroded, just put in a new one and do the vacuum test. DO NOT have them replace the compressor unless they have evidence that its faulty.

You should also get multiple quotes, as there are lots of charletans out there.

When I start airconditioner in my Mitsubishi lancer 1999 model car, it slows the speed and affecting like a catching. What is the reason? How can I clear it?

I would get the engine checked. Not the air/con.The air/con takes about 2 horsepower so if your motor has a big drop in power when you turn it on.Check the motor tune.Hope this helps

Can you tell me about reccomended maitenance on the timing belt for a mitsubishi lancer, 2.0l 4 cyl. engine year 2002.also, will engine damage occur if it breaks before its replaced?

it's said that every 60,000mi (100,000kms approx.) you havta replace the timing belt. but i believe that it's better if you replace it earlier than that. and safer too, as when the timing belt snaps while you're on the freeway, the crankshaft would still be spinning--- the camshaft stalls--- the valves and the piston heads would contact. catastrophic failure, major damage to your engine.

My radio does not working after my mechanic fixed the aircon of my car, 2002 mitsuibishi lancer, standard.

its possible that he hasnt connected it back up after working on your air con, especially if hes worked on the dash area,as thats the most likley reason its not working .Even a blown fuse due to any electrical work involved with the Air Con,but nothing to worry about as in terms of major .But you need to find out if the radio is connected or a small earth wire is off

Hi there,
there is a screw(situated in a hole) on the throttle body and this can be adjusted to increase the rpm. anticlock to raise the rpm.
