You can either drop the tank, if its near empty that is; but it hardly ever works out that way. When I did mine I took the bed off. Unbolt I believe 8 bolts , wiring for taillights, and (I used my cherry picker) lift the bed up. The pump assy goes into the tank, some twist out, some might have a couple screws holding it. I don't remember. Assembly is the opposite of removal.

give current to grey wire to fuel pump and listen if fuel pump work
.if not then wire to fuel pump open or fuel pump defect . check the ground black wire at fuel pump to frame

2001 chevy silverado shuts down with no hisitation not like a fuel problem when it shuts down it will start back up in about 30seconds or so

I have a 2001 chevy silverado 1500 with a 4800 vortec engine. it starts and idels fine but when ever i give it gas, the engine starts to sputter and dies. ive already changed the fuel filter and spark plug...

This sounds llike weak feul pressure, the fuelpump may need replacing, the first thing to do is have the fuel pressure tested and if the pressure is low then have the pump replaced. the pump is located inside the fuel tank and the tank will need to be dropped to replace the pump, good luck ,

The engine starts and dies immediately. I have just changed the starter switch and starter switch housing. 2001 Chevy Silverado 5.3 Does the system need to be coded?

See if the fuel pump is working. Turn the key on and listen by the gas tank if you hear the pump working. Mine was still working but didn't have enough pressure to keep the truck running. You might want to test the fuel pressure.

Process to change fuel pump on 2001 chevy silverado 1500

take the six bed bolt loose and then take three buddies slide the bed back put in the new pump slide it back n place and put the bed bolts back in. if u drop the tank u can easily break the hard plastis lines that go to the fuel tank. u only have to take the fill lines and taillight wires loose this way its alot quicker, and easier.

2001 chevy silverado won't start when warm

Possible weak spark from ignition coil or low fuel pressure due to weak pump. Try spraying carb clean into intake throttle body when problem is present. If vehicle will start and run with a little spray then fuel pump is failing.
