Someone would need to check fuel pressure at the injectors among other things. If the check engine light is on you should have the computer checked for trouble codes too.
Could be several things related to the fuel system.

SOURCE: 2002 Alero 2.2L is miss firing and burning too much gas

replace ignition system, start with coils, and coil pack housing under engine top cover. The plastic coil cover may be arking out. some people will tell you to look for "spider webs" on the plastic cover, don't you believe it!!! They go bad quite ofter and cost $50 a shot. also check your plugs, ONLY use autolite or ac delco REGULAR plugs, avoid bosch AT ALL COSTS.

I would get the car in to a mechanic right away. Sounds like the converter might be plugged. This has been known to cause car fires.

SOURCE: car loses power, runs rough, like it is trying to choke itself

YOU have a bad coil pack. they are about $50. and not too hard to replace. the trick is finding the bad one. the good news is there are only 3 to choose from ( if its a v6)

Why wont my 2002 olds alero start when its cold out

One of the coil packs or the ignition module is probably bad. Test for spark when cold. If no spark on any coils suspect the ignition module or crank position sensor. If spark is gone on only one coil check the plugs and wires to that coil pack. If theplugs and wires are ok then replace thge coil pack. Don't forget the obvious load test the battery and clean the battery connections. If the check engine light is on run any diagnostic codes and repair

Runs rough after warm-up

jshuffman: Believe it or not your ignition module (located behind the coil packs) could be the problem. If your cooloing fans are not working either, this is the culprit. The worst part is that it won't always show a code on the old obd 1 systems. This module controls more than you think along with the computer on this type of car. Good luck. Hope this helps. P.S. Air conditioning will quit working too.

How do i change the sparkplugs. an olds alero 99 3.4 130K ive done the front three but not the back three. help thanks mike

YOU NEED TO NUMBER TAG ALL SPARK PLUG WIRES ON COIL PACK MODULE IN ORDER SO YOU PUT THEM BACK IN ORIGINAL PLACE.REMOVE ALL PLUGS WIRES FROM COIL PACK.THEN DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ON COIL PACK MODULE THEN REMOVE COIL PACK.NOW YOU HAVE MORE ROOM TO GET TO BACK PLUGS.YOU NEED A LIGHT.A SMALL MECHANIC MIRROR.YOU NEED LONGER 3/8 EXTENSION.PROBABLY PLUG WIRE BOOT PULLER NOT MUCH ROOM TO PULL THE SPARK PLUG BOOT WITH HAND.

I have a 2001 Focus that is showing a #3 misfire, changed the spark plugs and wires and it is still running rough? What next?

had the same thing with my crown vic on the #8 cylinder. changed plugs and wires. still missing. wound up replacing the coil pack. you can check resistence of the coil between companion spark plug towers. ford marks each tower with 2 cylinder #'s. resisistence should be around 10-12 ohms

Have 1999 olds alero and it will not start. Changed all plugs and wires and fuel filter. No OBD II faults. Any ideas?

Start with the ignition controll module, it's located under the coil pack and can be tested at most parts stores. also could be the crank or cam postion sensors.
