SOURCE: where is epc solenoid located on 98 ford f-150

just pull the pan and it's the solenoid next to the linkage it's a round canister with two 90degree prongs when you get done pull the pos battery cable this should reset the computer and take care of any codes.

2000 ranger4x4 got hit while parked. motor runs fine until you put it in gear. then it go in to a limp mode. truck barely moves. code is a p1747. fuses are all ok , trans pan is off EPC ohms at 5 .

P1747** EPC EPC solenoid circuit failure, shorted circuit to ground. Voltage through EPC solenoid is checked. An error will be noted if tolerance is exceeded. Short circuit - causes minimum EPC pressure (minimum capacity) and limits engine torque (alt. firing). With zero EPC - no engagements. If engagement occurs and then EPC goes to zero, then No. 2nd, 3rd, and 5th gears. Slips in 1st and 4th with high input torque. Go To Pinpoint Test
PINPOINT TEST D: ELECTRONIC PRESSURE CONTROL (EPC) SOLENOID NOTE: Refer to the Transmission Vehicle Harness Connector illustration preceding these pinpoint tests.
NOTE: Refer to the Transmission Internal Harness Connector illustration preceding these pinpoint tests.
NOTE: Read and record all DTCs. All Digital TR Sensor and VSS DTCs must be repaired before entering Output State Control

Measure and record the resistance of the EPC solenoid. Resistance should be between 3.7-7.2 ohms.

D6 CHECK SOLENOID FOR SHORT TO GROUND Check for continuity between engine GROUND and the EPC solenoid terminals with ohmmeter or other low current tester (less than 200 milliamps). Connection should show infinite resistance (no continuity).
    Solenoid Terminal EPC

  • Is there continuity?
Yes INSTALL a new solenoid and install the transmission fluid pan.

No REFER to the Diagnosis by Symptom Index in Diagnosis By Symptom for pressure concerns.

2002 mercury sable epc solnoid code p1747 obd ll it said disconnected

P1747 Pressure Control Solenoid A Short Circuit

Sorry absolutly no idea what this is refering too on this vehicle,i would assume its the fuel pressure ,a sensor on the fuel rail but although this vehicle is the same as our ford mondeo chassis wise the small petrol engines and mainly diesels that are bought here in europe will be different to the american cars,Its also the same chassis as a S type jaguar as well or so iam told

F 150 Code P1747

This code is a trany solenoid failure code that pertains to the epc circuit. When this circuit fails, the vehicle will go to a limp mode or harsh shifting including hesitation and stalling. To check verify when the code appears after the code is reset... use a DVOM and check the voltages going to the epc (electronic pressure control) soleniod. To locate use a wiring diagram so you can locate the epc wires. Once tested, you can verify if the solenoid is working or getting proper voltage signal from the engine computer.

If you decide to replace the epc sensor, make sure the wirings connected to it is not shorting out due to bad insulation or poor routing. In most cases, a defective shorted wire is enough to make the epc solenoid to fail. Note: during the test, make sure the trany is warmed enough since some of these shorted wires will only come out after the vehicle is running for sometime which will cause intermittent flashing of the code. Finally, you can also check the integrity of the wires by tracing it from the trany upto the right module using a wiring diagram. Any DIY person can do this as long as he has the map (wiring diagram) to do it.

P1747 on a windstar 2002

Hi there:
DTC P1747 - Electronic Pressure Control Solenoid - Short circuit.

The EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid is a variable force solenoid that controls line pressure in the transmission. The EPC solenoid has a feedback circuit in the PCM that monitors EPC current. If the current indicates a short to ground (low pressure), engine torque may be reduced to prevent damage to the transmission.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

There are 2 codes given buy the vehicle the first is P1746 and the second is P1747. How do I replace the EPC Solenoid, and do I need any special tools.

P1746 IS EPC DRIVER CONTROLL FAILURE
P1747 IS EPC CIRCUIT SHORTED OR PCM COULD BE PCM ,,WIRING OR SOLENOID BODY

TO REPLACE SOLENOID BODY,,,,DISCONNECT WIRING HARNESS FROM SOLENOID CONNECTOR THEN DRAIN TRANS FLUID AND REMOVE PAN REMOVE 1 10 MM NUT AND ALL OF THE T30 BOLTS THEN GENTLY PRY DOWN ON SOLENOID ,,,( DON'T TEAR PLATE GASKET BY RAMMING SCREWDRIVER BETWEEN SOLENOID PACK AND TRANNY )... USE CONPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN AROUND SOLENOID CONNECTOR KEEPS DIRT FRON FALLING INTO TRANS.

HOPE THIS HELPS

Explorer, 2000; 4.0 EFI: Engine runs fine in neutral & responds well when accelerator is depressed; shift to reverse or drive & engine runs very rough....with no power whatsoever. Scanned...

P1747 * EPC, wiring, PCM EPC solenoid circuit failure, shorted circuit or output driver Voltage through EPC solenoid is checked. An error will be noted if tolerance is exceeded. Short circuit causes minimum EPC pressure (minimum capacity) and limits engine torque (alternate firm). Go To Pinpoint Test
The EPC solenoid is shorted or the electrical circuit (wiring) or the transistor (driver) inside the computer is fried. do you know how to test a computer controlled circuit ?
How to test computer transistor driver without scan tool

Do you know how to find the circuit in question ?

And you are correct about these two codes as being not related . Do you know what evaporative emission system is ?

Wells EVAP Training with Sgt Tech P0440 P0441 P0442 etc

The Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP) is used to prevent gasoline vapors from escaping into the atmosphere from the fuel tank and fuel system. The EVAP system usually requires no maintenance, but faults can turn on the Check Engine light and prevent a vehicle from passing an OBD II plug-in emissions test.
EVAP Evaporative Emission Control System - AA1Car.com
http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html you can find free wiring diagrams here . Do you know how to use a wiring diagram ?

P1451 - EVAP Control System Canister Vent Solenoid Circuit Malfunction Monitors the canister vent (CV) solenoid circuit for an electrical failure. The test fails when the signal moves outside the minimum or maximum allowable calibrated parameters for a specified canister vent duty cycle by PCM command.
  • VPWR circuit open
  • CV solenoid circuit shorted to PWR GND or CHASSIS GND
  • Damaged CV solenoid
  • CV solenoid circuit open
  • CV solenoid circuit shorted to VPWR
  • Damaged PCM
To verify normal function, monitor the EVAP canister vent solenoid signal PID EVAPCV and the signal voltage (PCM control side). With the valve open, EVAPCV will indicate 0% duty cycle and the voltage approximately equal to battery voltage. When the valve is commanded fully closed, EVAPCV will indicate 100% duty cycle and a voltage drop of 4 volts minimum is normal. Output test mode may be used to switch output ON/OFF to verify function. This is another electrical circuit problem .
Do you know how to use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ?
Do you know that P1747 (electronic press control solenoid short circuit) Is a transmission problem . This solenoid controls the fluid pressure .
