I am guessing it is a 580 Super E. If so, go to the above link and search for 580 Super E. It will, although slowly, give you a click able link that will let you view specifications. There are a few options, so I will let you calculate the final weight.
Speaking of an engine block heater ? if so no problem you can purchase a 115 volt ac unit that install's in your freeze plug hole remove freeze plug and install check with dealer for proper freeze plug. Hope this helps
Block heaters are installed on the engine block in one of the "freeze plug" openings. The freeze plug is punched out and the block heater is installed in its place. The freeze plugs, about 3 on each side of the engine, are midway up the block- a round, slightly recessed metal plug about 2 inches in diameter that is driven into these holes made during the engine casting process. The freeze plugs will be found below where the exhaust manifold attaches-so if you are looking on the side of the engine with the exhaust manifold-look behind and just below the exhaust manifold. The other side of engine will have the same number of freeze plugs at the same level on the engine block.
Your block heater is probably on the front facing side of the engine (towards the radiator). It is probably shinier than tom the he regular freeze plugs, will have a small screw in the center for tightening when installed, and will have 2 or 3 metal prongs that your heater cord attaches to. Simply plug it back into the heater. Just remember: about halfway up on the engine block, from the oil pan rail at bottom to the top of block where the cylinder head mates.
factory or aftermarket.?
after market? I guess.
1: go to all makers of heaters, read the pages, decide which technology best suits your needs,
2: then read their manual.
here , technologies.
1: magnetic mounted heater.
2: freeze plug (casting plug) mounted.
3: loop heater.
i like #3, its easy and very effective.
but latitude is not stated so....
case in point Alaska. ( can do endless ideas there)
Block heaters are installed in place of one of your freeze plugs on the engine. Drain the coolant and knock out a freeze plug to install. Directions are included with the block heater, including usually which freeze plug to put the heater in, and the orientation of the heater in the freeze plug hole.
First check and see if there is a pouch located directly beside your
battery. If there is a pouch it will contain a plug that is for the
factory engine block heater. If there is no plug then you can pursue an aftermarket type.
There are several types. If you want to use a freeze plug block heater,
you'll need to have someone help you remove a freeze plug. That usually
requires that you remove a lot of the peripheral equipment until you
can get a clear access to one of the freeze plugs. Measure the freeze
plug then go to an auto parts store and purchase a freeze plug block heater
of that specific size. Once you have one that will fit into the hole,
you can drill a hole in the freeze plug, then use a prying instrument
to remove the old freeze plug. The block heater freeze plug usually goes in with a nut to tighten the freeze plug into the hole.
BTW, you'll get a lot of antifreeze all over when you do this, and plan on taking your time since it will be time consuming.
not all s-10 came with a block heater. the plug is on the end of a long extension cable, should be on either side of the block. if you can't find it, it most likely doesn't have one. you can install one, just by the kit from your local GM parts department, raise the vehicle in the air, remove a freeze plug & install the block heater where the freeze plug was.
its not an easy job.
it should be in front near the grill, was there a block heater installed on this van? if you look at the engine were the freeze plugs go ,if a heater was installed you should see the element in one of the freeze plug holes instead of a freeze plug, if there is one then follow the cord, hope this is helpful, good luck.
A block heater is installed in one of the freeze plug ports in your block. Drain your cooling system. Then drill a small hole i the center of the freeze plug and screw a self tapping screw into the hole. You can the use a claw hammer or something similar to pull the freeze plug. Then you just install the block heater in the freeze plug's place. Refill your cooling system and let it get up to full temperature checking carefully for leaks. Please rate my answer.
