89 volvo 240 dl wagon stalls and will not even turnover

I had the alt checked they said it was ok.so i took the seven mounth old battey in and they said it was dead.so they replaced it.i installed the battery and reset the pcm brain.the car started right up.idrove the car for about 3 days 100miles. (it really started hard in the cold wheather).then i was driving and the car dies, wont even turn over. i get it jumped get home and dies in the drive way apx 1mile.and thats where im at. I am having a similar problem with a 93 240. I have replaced the mass air flow sensor. before that I thought it was a fuel pump relay. My engine would crank, but not turn over. I have a procedure that sounds hookey, but it works for me when I am stranded. Put the car in park if automatic, neurtal if standard. set E brake. Remove your foot from the brake. turn off ignition and remove key entirely. wait 10 seconds... reinsert key and mine always starts.... might reset a relay....i do not know

I'm having a same problem. You should have a self-diagnostic box. Are you getting 2-3-1 code. If so, I will let you know in couple of days how it works out for me. I'm have an in-tank fuel pump and in-tank filter relaced.

A dead 7 mos battery is not getting re-charged properly. If alt is ok then it must be wires/connections. Sudden death while driving could be related to bad battery condition - thus the reprieve when turning off and starting over. I would have a real volt meter ( not just dash) attached to this car for a while so that I could see what is going on while driving.

I have an 89 Volvo 240 DL. The car developed the problem of stumbling and balking at about 1800 RPM. We took it to a Volvo mechanic who repaced the MAF, etc. Problem returned two weeks later

Junk it? No, let me know and I'll buy it. :D

Check the cap, rotor and plug wires - and if you haven't replaced them in the last few years, do so.

Make SURE you use Bougicord plug wires. Everything else is going to cause problems.

What size battery does my 1989 volvo 240 DL take? I need to replace it and cannot research the cost until I know what size

Just call a couple parts stores and get prices, the cheapest battery is rarely the best deal and they can dispose of the old one for you. They will know what size you need. Also if you have a warranty need in the future they are open seven days a week.

I was wondering where the fuel filter is located in a 1989 Volvo 240 DL station wagon

Check the left front fender area under the hood. If it is not there, it will be located under the car, right wheel area.

89 volvo 240 dl wagon stalls and will not even turnover

If you can get it running again, get it to an electrical shop where they can test the charging system. If the alternator is still bad, it will continue draining the battery. If it won't run, pull the alternator and take it to a shop that can test it.

Car stalls and will not even turnover

Make sure you check the wiring to the alternator. It goes under the front of the engine and it it prone to deterioration from oil and heat. The insulation wears of and the wires will short out, causing the alternator to stop charging.

My volvo 240 DL Station Wagon (a 1987) idles high, and there is a frequent delay in acceleration when I press the gas. These issues MAY be unrelated to one another, as my car has well over 200k miles on...

I tink you have to replace the catalyst for better acceleration probably is blocking the combustion that's what you loosing power, I have 240 wagon 92 and i just did it. my 184k miles good luck.
