Abs sound when brakes applied i have had no warning signs of brake problems from my suv , it's a 1998 blazer , 4 door. the sound and feel of the abs kicks in before i put much pressure on the brake at all , it still stops but acts as if it is slipper when it isn't.

The regular brake warning light is for the parking brake being applied or the brake fluid is low. You would need to get the abs system scanned for trouble codes to proceed.

I think I would get the body computer scanned for trouble codes and find out why the ABS warning light is on first.
The hissing noise usually means the booster is leaking vac but if the booster was faulty the brake pedal would be hard to push.

First thing with brakes is to check the lining thickness. You can usually see the fronts through the wheel, or look underneath. If you have drum brakes in the back there may be a rubber inspection plug.

But if linings are ok, another risk is wheel bearings. You would then feel it as a vibration in pedal, and through steering wheel if a front bearing.

With the light, have the ABS code read with a ODBCII module. Autozone can do this for free.

the abs does work like that at all times apply the brakes. If you are referring to a harsh throbbing or pulsating feel upon applying the brakes the abs module needs to be looked at

abs modules work very hard on any car. it controls the braking, handling and control of the vehicle. usually this is an early warning sign off the abs module packing up. take care.

Sounds more like a caliper problem then an abs problem. ABS systems dont lock up your wheels it prevents them from locking up when you apply to much pressure on the brake.

the yellow light is warning you that a problem exsists with the abs. unless you are experienced with brakes and abs would highly suggest you take it to a shop.
