"I own a 2004 Saturn Vue that recently just had a ****** flush and oil change. I am now noticing a knocking noise coming from the engine whenever the car is stopped and in drive. Sound goes away in P,N,R. What could be causing this?"
Hi,
1st thing - DO NOT DRIVE as you may be low/out of fluid.
Check both your automatic transmission fluid and your engine oil level. Both should be described in the owner's manual.

try having someone kill the a/c while you check for the noise. if it stops then check further into the compressor where you said you thought it was coming from. It could be the bearings in the compressor clutch going out.

noise is caused by lack of oil to lifters, or worn timeing chain. if noise is from lifters it should go away wit proper oil level, if still there needs timeing chain.

best advice here is to ask a local mechanic to have a look as engine shouldnt have started knocking with teh new oil in unless someone has put tranny fluid into teh engine or something stupid ,the lights for the airbag shouldnt be connected but the oil light ?? Do not drive car untill a mechanic has come around and checked it out for you though as this oil light coming on and knocking noise is serious

The oil wouldn't cause that problem since their the same weight. You could have a problem if you ran the car with low oil. You should check your coolant and transmission fluids and make sure they are ok. You could have a bad piston. Is your check engine light on?

*Just an Update* Took the car to our mechanic and he checked it out thoroughly. He said it is actually not coming from the Trans or the motor itself. He said the it ratiates from the air filter box. When the box is slightly moved one way it stops, but move it again and the knocking noise comes back. He is baffled by it and said he will research it somemore to see if he can figure it out. For the time being he said it is safe to drive. Also I should add, over the summer the a/c started to go out. I really don't feel like forking over the $1000 it will require to replace the whole thing since we are going into winter anyways. Do you think the sound/problem could be from something to do with the a/c taking a dump?
