Does anyone know how to remove or tighten the belt tensioner on the 1990 buick century v6 3.3l model? When i was replacing my alternator I must have messed up the tensioner some how cause when it idles i can see the tensioner is loose. Any help is appreciated
There is a 15 millimeter bolt in the center of the tensioner, first take belt off of it so there is no pressure and then remove that bolt.
when you are putting the new tensioner on make sure you align the doll pin with it's hole when you are tightening the bolt.

take belt off then make sure you have the right size socket and breaker bar to loosen the bolts on the tensioner and do everything in reverse to put new on

if you put new belt on, there is spring loaded tensioner that controls the tightness of the belt....you might have ronge belt or a bad tensioner.check belt no. against part store.

check your harmonic balancer they where notorius for going bad on buicks.Remove the belt and grab the balancer and see if you can rock it back and forth by hand. if you can its the balancer

engine mounts may be loose or brocken
& low idle speed too

SOURCE: Need to know what is causing this loud noise by the serpentinebel
It's very common for the harmonic balancer to fail. It sounds like a hammer and is usually worse at idle.

Ok thanks so what can I use to take the bolt off? Is it metric? I tried to take it off but the tensioner keeps moving around while I try to loosen it.
