I have a 93 K3500 with a 454. Truck was running fine, started no problem, ran great. Driving the other day, turn the corner and the engine quit. Cranked the engine, fired up for 2-3 seconds then quit, tried again, same thing. Changed the cap and rotor and the ignition module, no change. check the fuel filter, OK. With key on can hear fuel pump running. Should it pressurize the system and shut off? Any suggestions. Thanks, Rick

Before starting the engine, the fuel pump should only run for a few seconds when the key is first turned, to pressurize the fuel system. Even though the pump appears to be running, you may either have not enough or too much pressure for the engine to keep running (fuel pump or pressure regulator). I think it may just be a coincidence the engine quit while turning a corner, but the gas in your tank may have been so low it sloshed away from what is likely a very old pump, starving it and causing it to failure.

My problem was solved when I repaired my 4 wd activation dash switch. The switch was contacting on 2WD & 4HI at the same time. The front differential activation is vacuum activated possibly creating a tug of war that didn't actually engage it but drained off vacuum from the engine? A theory at best but stumbbled across it because I knew the switch wasn't working properly I repaired it and low and behold rough idle disappeared and all is good for 3 weeks running.

Chevy Trucks, Blazers, S10 pickup and the like will vapor lock ecspecially the 2000 models. Do not tighten the gas cap past 1 click. There is a tube that runs from the top of the tank down and this gets hot and collapses or burns in half. We just bought a reinforced rubber tube cut it to lengh and use it instead of part and it's worked grat for 2 years so far.

Try having the fuel pressure regulator checked, it's round in shape at the end of the fuel rail, and has a small vaccum line connected to it.
Also check that vaccum line to see what shape it's in, the littlest pin hole will cause a problem.

This sounds exactly like a bad fuel pump. Do this turn the switch on then listen for the pump to run when it doesn't run have someone beat on the fuel tank with a piece of wood if the pump runs replace it. I hope this helps. Take Care.

have you looked into the injectors, or injector balance? glow plugs just preheat the cylinders before you start turning the engine over. if the injectors are dumping too much fuel it will run rich and blow black smoke, lean it will dump white smoke, same as if it has an internal coolant leak, but smell different. Ford has had problems with EGR systems on some of their diesels, being an older truck how many miles is on it? and the front fuel tank could have a bad fuel pump, pretty common for them to do what you have described. Also might want to have the timing looked at on it! It ignites off of pressure, and if the timing is off it will adversely affect the ignition of the fuel which will make for hard starts, and poor running. there is a lot that needs to be looked at to figure this one out! could be quite a few different things. I once had a 302 ford van that ran really bad going up a hill and I thought the transmission was dying. Turned out that my catylitic converter had broken apart and clogged so the truck wasn't exhausting at all. This will make a vehicle hard start and run bad, so make sure you feel the exhaust for pressure. Seems silly, I know but I've been there.

Faulty idle control system/ sensor. Vacuum leaks, loose or damaged wires in the ignition system. Check all wires and connections.

Lack of power when accelerating

You really should have a code check done. There are numerous items that can give you similar symptoms. Two places to look are the fuel filter (usually overlooked till they gum up, and the throttle position sensor (but test it first with an ohmeter. You will need a manual (vehicle specific ones are available at most larger parts stores and most of those stores also do code testing free)
