Was driving van belt snapped battery light came on dash kept driving eventually stopped (engine cut out) got new belt fitted it now wont start any suggestions as what it could be would be very grateful.
Once your belt snapped all of your cars power was running off of the battery (lights, radio, spark plugs, etc.), then your battery died. Therefore you have no power to turn your starter and apply a spark. Get someone to jump your car, once your car is started allow it to run for a little while to charger your battery back up. Batteries don't allways charge up properly either so you may end up needing a battery, depending on its age.

If that connection is leaking, then that is more than likely the problem. If fuel is leaking out, then air will leak in. When the van is left overnight, the fuel will run back down the fuel line to the tank, leaving air in the pipe. The fuel system must be completely air tight. Try slapping some grease around the connection and see if it starts in the morning. if it does then replace the connector and you have fixed the problem.

Try depressing the trip reset with the ignition switch in the off position then turn the ignition on with the reset still pressed, wait 20 secs or so and it should reset, if not then you need a code reader.

In my opinion cut off problem occurs if engine is not getting sufficient fuel and/or air. Clean the air filter, turbo filter and fuel filter. Check the continuity of diesel flow from filter to hdi pump. If you haven't found any problem there then the possibily the hdi pump and injectors section needs to be checked. If the car has done more than 100000 miles then clean inlet and outlet manifolds including check of turbo and EGR valve. Do everything whatever possible before you take your car to garage. If there is no luck then let your car diagnosed and check any error code recorded by ecu.
