Check your key it has to be one of the original PATS keys to start this vehicle if a regular key gets swapped for the original it will not let the injectors fire. If you have the original keys and it will still not start there is something with the PATS system and it will need to be towed to the nearest Ford dealer

i bought a new '02 f150 (with remote start) that had a similar problem. after a few years, the truck wouldn't start one day. had it towed to a ford dealer who said - "one of the wires that connect to the anti-theft bypass module (555U) was probably frayed inside the tilt-steering column" - since the position of the steering column seemed to affect whether the truck would start or not. (if it was tilted all the way up or all the way down, the security light would flash rapidly and the truck would not start. if it was tilted anywhere else, the rapidly flashing security light would appear most of the time - but not all the time). since the truck was out of warranty, they simply disconnected the 555U and stored it in the glove box. when i went to pick up the truck, they also told me they re-programmed the keys.
okay; that was 2 years ago. now i'd like to get the remote start working again. so i plugged the 555U back into the wires under the dash and let it hang gently. when i tried to remotely start the vehicle, the security light would once again flash rapidly. this led me to believe the problem was inside the 555U. i opened it up and found an ignition key inside.
question: i'm wondering if the 555U's key has the old programming (or code, or whatever-you-call-it). i'd like to know what would happen if i try this key in the ignition. if it is not programmed correctly (if the ford dealer didn't remember to re-program that key too), and i try to use it in the ignition, will the anit-theft system think i'm trying to steal the car and cause a lock-out type of condition? and if so; is there any way to clear the locked-out condition - (like disconnecting the battery overnight, or...)?
long-winded, i know - but i wanted to include as much detail as i could remember.
thanks-very-much;
