My Hyundai Matrix car is not starting. When I turn the key to start the car it tumbles but won't turn on. I know that it is not the battery because we took the same battery and installed it into our other Matrix car, and that car is starting perfectly. We have been told by a friend that the black box needs to be reset. Where can I find this black box? Is there a sequence that needs to be followed to reset this black box. Is there some kind of a button or switch that needs to be pressed?

There is no black box. Try checking the oil, The low oil sensor will disable the ignition if more than a quart low. Perform an OBDII scan for stored fault history. Let the fault history be your guide to any repairs to avoid buying parts you don't need.

SOURCE: when I try to start

If any of the gauges are blinking and going haywire and the security light flashing then the instument cluster is faulty. But if it is just the security light flashing then its in the switch. If you only had the switch replaced then you need a new ignition lock cylinder because its worn out.

SOURCE: the car won't start; lights,

Check the starter and the starter relay or fuse. A client of mines car was doing the same thing, it ended up being two issues, the starter not working anymore, and a relay that was bad. If I am not mistaken everything should be labeled in the fuse box under the hood and will tell you where the fuse/ relay is for your vehicle

Make sure you have the plug wires on the correct plug. Check the ignition timming to make sure it is correct. After running for a few minutes pull the pluggs to see whitch cylinders are running rich. The fuel pressure and volume need to be tested.

Additionally, try checking the power transistor. I will send the test. Also make sure the coil has a good ground...

The process for the passlock relearn is correct. If by chance the relearn does not work, you may have a fail component in the system. Go to this link for options to fix this yourself.

I can't start my 1995 hyundai elantra after forgetting to turn off the lights when going for class. I try to jump start it but the car won't start and all the lights keep on flashing and flick

After connecting battery, try using key in drivers door to lock, and /or unlock. Try passenger if that doesn't work, as well as valet key if it came with one.

got same symptoms with my hyundai matrix. Engine just stalled when car is not in motion (i.e traffic light, traffic jam), plus a cylinder misfire. I went online for some search (this site included). Then went for OBDII diagnostic.

Its the Crank Position Sensor/Crank Sensor/ CKP Sensor or whatever it is called. Had that replaced, and she's been back to well behaved since.

2011 hyundai sonata won't start. battery seems fine. loud clicking/knocking when i turn the key. would it be the starter?

Unusual for the starter to fail on a one year old car.
You are having it towed to a dealer for warranty repairs, right ?

I put a new battery in my hyundai sonata and now the lights inside the car wont even come on. it won't do anything. If you jump it it will start but thats it it won't start back up after you turn...

Did this occur straight after changing out the battery, or after sitting with the new battery installed?

Have you checked the new batteries voltage and voltage under load, eg. (Voltage when headlights are on) could be a flat new battery.

Or could be load on the battery after key is turned off, something draining the battery overnight like a boot or interior light, radio left on ect.

Unlikely a short, or you would be in a world of burnt wires from the battery cables.

2004 Hyundai Elantra won't start, emergency flashers keep blinking, can't shut off, lights dim, can't jump start, clicking from under dash from relays. What could it be?

The 'Keyless Entry & Burglar Alarm System" is activated. You must 'Disarm' the system using the Keyless Entry Remove (Key Fob) to "Reset" the system. The reason the engine won't start is due to the burglar alarm - it has a "Starter Kill" circuit which is activated when the alarm is activated. The alarm must be DEactivated to DEactivate the 'Starter Kill' circuit.
Another way to start the engine is to get in the car, put the key in the ignition and turn it to 'ON" and wait 3 to 5 minutes until the emergency flashers stop/turn off. Afterward, you should be able to start the engine. NOTE: This does NOT reset the burglar alarm. It will go off again when you enter the vehicle without using the remote/key fob.
