Car running poorly & would backfire when accelerated, no power. Thought it might be the timing belt but decided to tune it up first. Replaced spark plugs & car started fine & seemed to rev ok in the garage. Took it for a drive & within a few feet experienced the same no power (backfires upon acceleration attempt, etc.). Idled it back in the garage. Noticed some arcing around the coil pack & replaced same. Cranked up again & revved ok in garage. Pulled out & immediately had no power. This time would not idle. Took the gas cap off & got car to idle back to garage. Checked codes with AutoTap - no errors. Checked fuel delivery at rails, appeared to be sufficient (did not use a guage though). Removed fuel pump pressure regulator & noticed I cant blow through it. Could this be the problem or is that normal?
It may take as much as 60 PSI to overcome the fuel pressure regulator. No, you can't blow through it. I suspect you have a fuel starvation issue. It could be a clogged fuel filter. It may more likely be a pressure leak inside the tank. That pressure gauge you mentioned comes highly recommended at this point. There is a flexible line connecting the pump to the metal line in the tank. If it ruptures, you have only minimal pressure, and the vehicle starves for fuel. Using the gauge, turn the ignition on and off a couple of times, (do not start) If the filter is choked, you will still achieve pressure to overcome the regulator. If it never makes that much pressure, then it is the flex or the pump itself. My first experience with this I found the rupture after the third pump! Embarrassing!
If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!

I have the same car and the same problem. Running real rough ,misfiring, and no power. Brought the car to Capital Hyundia in St.John's,NL. and they tried ato fix it but to no avail. They checked the plug wires ,plugs, coils, but could'nt get the car fixed.Next thing they were going to do was change over the gas tank and filler tube(mind you the high costs of these items--hundreds of dollars!!!!!). So we had no choice but to cut our losses and spitter and sputter the car back home . So this is the reason i'm on FIX YA. Could someone -anyone -help me fix this car??Thank you--dead end dad
