03 Chevy Tahoe 5.3L vin "z". It started by randomly dieing. I checked the fuel pressure and it was low so I replaced the pump assembly. After it ran great for 2 or 3 days then it started dieing again. After sitting for several hours or sometimes overnight it will restart and run for anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 miles but never restarts immediately like before. I have rechecked the fuel pressure with the new pump and it is perfect. However when I checked for spark (with a ignition tester) there isn't any at any of the plugs. I did replace the crankshaft position sensor thinking this would take care of it with no avail.

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter. The fuel filter should be replaced every 15,000 miles or once a year to ensure the fuel system is running 100%. Auto Zone will have the fuel filter and can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done with common tools. If it's the fuel pump failure, you have not gotten the car restarted. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know you got your car running 100% again soon and please rate.

01 Chevy Tahoe won't start running

Hook up a fuel pressure gage and check the pressure or get a can of spray starting fluid and see if engine starts and dies, if so the fuel pump was damaged from running out of gas, the reason is this, the tiny in tank fuel pump uses the fuel for both lubrication and cooling, to run out of gas is to quickly destroy the pump.

Check the crank position sensor. Also it could be as simple as a bad coil or coil wire. It definitely sounds electrical if you hear fuel pump priming. Also check distributor cap and rotor. Hope this helps

The 1990's chevy trucks(all of them) had fuel pump and grounding problems:

1. Check the fuel pump ground strap next to the gas tank as it could be broken from the connector or just loose.

2. Have a fuel pressure test done on the fuel lines at the engine top. (Note: if there isn't enough fuel pressure, replace the fuel pump.)

Chevy Tahoe sputters than dies

i would first try to replace the fuel filter.usually there filter accumalates debris in the gas tank especially if you you ru the tank close to empty.filter location needs to be traced from the tank toward the motor.you will see a cylinder inline with a strap.part usually runs around 20.00. also when you initally turn the key before start you will hear a hum for about 2 sec. this is the fuel pump pushing the fuel up to motor.so if you hear this pump is working.

03 Tahoe Z71 Flex Fuel won't start and run. Engine turns over, fires, but won't start. I can hear the fuel pump run but it is not a steady sound like I would normally hear. I am getting a P0

It wouldn't hurt to check fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. you should see somewhere around 48 - 55 psi. the test port is on the fuel rail about in the middle of the rail and on the drivers side.

If the fuel fuel pressure is low it wouldn't hurt to make sure there is power to the fuel pump before condemning it. Power is supplied to the pump by the larger of the two grey wires.

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and the fuel tank will need to be dropped from the vehicle in order to service the fuel pump.

If you decide to replace the fuel pump get an a/c delco or a delphi pump. These are the best two option for your vehicle. Do not get an airtex brand. They are not reliable pumps although they are cheap.

1999 chevy tahoe 5.7 wont start in the am without starting fluid but as long as you start it every 1/2 hr or so it starts fine. runs good once started any suggestions?

check fuel pressure. If its marginal then replace the pump. These trucks are touchy on fuel pressure. Just a couple psi low and they do exactly this. In the morning cold is when you need max fuel. Be sure to replace the harness also as these tend to lead to repeated pump failures when faulty, which is pretty common

IVE HAD PLENTY OF THESE GO OUT EVEN A MONTH LATER. AS FAR AS THE STARTING FLUID JUST TRY AND CYCLE KEY BUT KEEP IT FROM TURNING STATER OVER. TURN ON AND OFF ABOUT 3 TO 5 TIMES IT SHOULD BUILD ENOUGH PRESSURE TO START. TO START MINIMUN PRESS IS 55PSI.

Most common problem is low or no fuel pressure. You will need to get a fuel pressure reading and post back.
If there is no or low fuel pressure then most likly the fuel pump is bad and needs to be replaced.

1998 Chevy tahoe Hard to start when cold

Hello, yes the check valve is in the fuel pump assembly. The check valve is leaking and the pump will burn out soon. Unfortunately the aftermarket fuel pumps can be very unreliable. A good portion of problems we see on this site are from people who replace the pump sometimes twice and it still doesn't work.
