2012 Kia Soul PInging

My 2012 Kia Soul 1.6L auto is making a pinging noise at the bottom end of a gear. I know what pinging sounds like and am sure this is a ping. The Kia dealer says nothing is wrong and this is what the motor sounds like. I disagree. Anyone else having this problem? 8,500 miles on motor.

Could be bad gas with low octane or carbonned-up pistons or valves.Try using a higher octane gasoline along with some really good fuel system cleaner added to gas tank. don-ohio

2012 Kia Soul. What is wrong with my car?

The squealing is normally belt slip and that is easy to fix with a can of Belt Conditioner spray.

The rest sounds like a weak battery and electrical issues which are best diagnosed by an auto electrician using a pro grade scan tool computer.

It's not the starter!

Why does it have a pinging noise?

Sounds like you have a valve slap. First let your car cool for an hour and check your oil level, and transmission fluid if you have one... if they are good, see if the noise starts right away when you fire up listen to see if it starts as soon as the fan starts. .... a lot of fans have an auto engage on the rad fan... when they wear out they will try and engage and you will get a ping ping sound as the hub try to do its job and start the fan.... I have also seen a stick get caught up under the car and just barely touch the fan so that every time it rotated....ping ping...

Why does my motor have a pinging sound

You did not mention when this pinging occurs (all the time? idle? lugging under load?). If it is in fact in the engine, it is most likely a timing issue which can get complicated because it could be caused by a problem with the distributor, timing chain or chain tensioner, one or more faulty engine sensors, etc.

However, there are other causes of this noise. Most pinging noises at idle or low RPMs are not usually in the motor itself but rather from rotating parts that periodically touch something, and often happen when something comes loose or is bent, bearings get worn, or something made it into the engine compartment that shouldn't be there (a tool, a rock, etc.). Typical examples are worn out HVAC fan, cooling fan or AC compressor clutch bearings; a cooling fan blade touching metal or a loose shield; and so on. If this is the case, you should try to locate exactly where this noise is coming from - a stethoscope from an auto parts store may help.

My 2004 Cadillac SRX has intermittent pinging or

The pinging noise that you hear is detonation occuring in one or more of the cylinders. The dealer suggested to move to a higher octane inorder to prevent this because the higher the octane the higher the prevention of Detonation.

The Probable cause of the pinging, would be that you refilled with a bad batch of gasoline. Premium should be used in this vehicle no matter what. Due to the clearances of the heads and valves in the motor. And also due to the material used to make the cylinder heads, if severe detonation occures then the valves could be damaged.
