If the check engine light is on look at the faults. It could be a defective cam sensor, the timing belt might not be in the place, or a defective mass air flow sensor.

SOURCE: vw automatic trans won't shift

The 01M and 09A automatic transmissions do not have a dipstick and procedure requires measuring and maintaining a specified ATF temperature (which is neither cold or hot, but in between) during the ATF level checking. Special Volkswagen tools are required for this operation and it is therefore recommended that ATF level checking on 01M/09A transmissions be left to an authorized VW dealer.

SOURCE: I have a vw golf mk 5 2.0 sdi, when engin starts,

Check the VAG code. I had the same problem with my MK V 1.4 FSI. Let me guess when you rev it, it dusnt shake anymore?

It might be one of your cylinders are misfiring. And this might be faults with spark plugs, coil pack or the injector. You'll be lucky if it is the first two as they aren't much expensive to repair. It will cost you if it is the injectors.

SOURCE: 2003 Protege 5 overheating on long runs.

I just replaced the radiator and thermostat on my 03. The radiator was defective (corroded) on the lip where the cap seals. This allowed coolant to be spat out. The thermostat was also sticking closed after new radiator and this caused overheating. Replace both while in there for under $100 if doing it yourself.

I have a 2001 Ford escape xls 4x4 2.0 4cylinder and when driving down interstate at 75 mph in 5th gear my rpms are running at 3500. Is this normal or what would be causing this? It sounds like it needs a...

That is a typical RPM at that speed for most 6-speed 4 cylinder engines. The reason for this is that they have a much lower power output at lower RPMs (due to lack of torque), and the engineers want for you to have SOME acceleration to get up little hills.

Vw golf mark4 over revs

Hello James,

If the engine revs up with no increase in speed, your clutch is slipping. Probably the reason the car was sold!

WHEN DRIVING AND THE TRANS NEEDS TO SHIFT ON MY 2005 VW JETTA 2.5-5 NEW STYLE THE RPM'S REV UP BRIEFLY THEN THE TRANS WILL SHIFT THE SHIFTING IS SMOOTH BUT THE HIGH RPMS WORRY ME.

when vw started to use the computer controlled gearbox system a criticism was the shift was very harsh,to counter this they made it rev slightly before changing.so that you know the system, try this out....without touching the gas.....put it in d and let the car accelerate to its max speed, stop, then use 1/3rd of gas (keep your foot still)and let it do the same...stop,then,if safe, put your foot to the floor, hard, notice when the car changes gear(revs/speed)then if you drive, only using the first1/3rd of the gas,the cars change pattern will alter to suit.......wierd it is.....

My Honda Civic VTI 2002 Model does not rev beyond 3500 rpm when revved at idling speed and also when driving interstate. I have replaced fuel pump and speed sensors but problem remains. Help!

You need to have it put on a scanner to look at live data. The only way to find the answer is with diagnostic equipment and the knowledge to understand it.

When driving at 40 and accelarate the revs go up quickly but the speed hardly changes

you indicate you may have a slipping transmision, check fluid levels , check for dirty transfluid that smell of dirty dishwater or burnt smell, sounds like it is a trans problem for sure, anytime the revs go up and vehicle speed does not change then it points to a trans problem...could be torque converter and or bad worn clutches in trans or even low trans fluid pressures...
