Check the belt,if its out it will flag up this code, your car will run on sequential firing from the crankshaft sensor, failing that put an oscilloscope on the signal wire at the sensor and ecu its possible the ecu might not be seeing the signal, start with the basics first

While looking for how to replace a Kia Rio crankshaft positionsensor, ... is on and i have a P0340 code, think this is theproblem? kia rio 2002.
There will be a camshaft and crankshaft sensor so be sure you replaced the correct one. The code its giving you is a dead sign of no start and a bad sensor. Make sure its electrical connector is hooked up tight and its seated properly.
the check engine light comes on to tell you there is a problem with something the computer controls or receives info from. Have the computer scanned for codes. Once you have those codes post them here and I'll be happy to help you further.
I have a 2004 kia rio have replaced the camshaft position sensor twice, and the code keeps coming back after it is reset. It is still running really rough. Is there something I am overlooking?
Did you reset the code after replacing the sensor? If it is accessable you may want to try to wiggle or hold the camshaft position sensor while cranking to see if this helps. On most of the vehicles I have had a problem with this sensor, most won't even crank when there is a sensor issue. So you may have another problem on your hands.
check the fuel line hose near the fuel regulator for wear as they tend to leak or corrode causing a gas smell inside the car. My 2000 Kia Sportage just had the same problem with the gas smell inside the car.
