Problem with 2000 ford taurus fuel pump

My 2000 taurus won't start and feel it may be the fuel pump. I can hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds when I turn the key on, but not getting gas through the line. I disconnected the line before the gas filter and still don't get any gas comming out when I turn the key on. Could this still be the pump even though I hear it running??? Thanks for any help.

If the pump is running but not pumping gas, it's a bad pump or a clogged filter sock in the tank

Sounds like it may be the spark plugs. If you have a spark maybe a fuel filter is clogged? Hope all goes well!

If you indeed installed the positive battery cable last and the neg first you blew the computer possible, you will need a complete diagnosis.

Had a problem like this before and it was the computer..But you could faintly smell something like burnt wires..The computer should be down by the kick panel on the driverside..See if you smell anything on that side

My 2000 ford expoler 4.0 dohc won't start fuel pump won't come on mabe my anti-theft how do i check that

Drop the tank and on top of the tank where the wires go is a special sort of electrical gizmo that will not allow the pump to work unless it gets the right frequency signal so just bypass it and run the wires direct onto the fuel pump --sorted--

I have a 2000 Ford Taurus. My wife left the radio running with the ignition off for a short while. Now the car won't turn over, won't start, won't jump. There is one click when trying to s

The click you are hearing is most likely the start slenoid making contact, however you should short the large wires @ the solenoid to make certain the starter still doesn't run, if so try tapping the starter with a hammer to shift the comutator a litle and try to start. Even if it now starts the starter will continue to give you problems so the proper fix is change the starter

I would check the EEC relay, and the fuel pump relay too. But it sounds like the ignition module is loosing power, or the pump is not getting power after the engine starts.
The computer must see oil pressure or RPM to power the pump relay after the engine starts.

Won't start after running out of gas

However, your problem is most likely in your fuel injection system. When you turn your ignition to 'ON' you should hear your fuel pump come on. If you do, you may only need to turn your ignition OFF/ON a few times for the fuel system to pump gas back to your engine. If you do not hear it come on, your fuel pump may need to be replaced. It'll need to be checked by someone with enough information to make an accurate diagnosis.

I let my 2000 ford taurus sit for 6 weeks and now it wont start

place a screwdriver or metal object between your ear and gas tank. Have helper turn key on but dont actually crank. you should hear the fuel pump buzz for approximatey 2 seconds each time you do this. This is the first step in solving this problem. If the fuel pump works, post again.

GMC 2000 sierra pick up 1500 sounds like it wants to start but won't turn over. Battery sounds good so I guess battery and alternator are ok. For several years fuel gauge doesn't work and...

It sure could be. But, first...by "won't turn over" you do mean it cranks at normal speed but won't start?
A simple test of the fuel pump is to stand by tank and listen as someone turns key to on. When first turned to on, your pump will activate for 2 or 3 seconds, pressurizing the fuel system, and then shut off if the engine computer doesn't get a cranking signal. Do you hear it come on? If not, then something's not turning your pump on. If you can hear it buzz on briefly, then maybe it's your filter. Another test: Spray a little starting fluid into your intake manifold (remove the big hose going into intake manifold) while someone tries starting it.If it doesn't fire and try to stay running, then it's probably an ignition problem. But if it does fire off, then you know it's a fuel problem-likely your pump or filter. good luck.

My car sat idle for about a month but I had a friend start it occasionally to keep the battery up and running. One day the engine would not turn over when he tried to start it up. The lights come on like...

yeah, try starter fluid just to verify if it;s fuel or spark related. If it starts or tries to, then it's a fuel problem. You should be able to hear your pump turn on, when you turn key on, may need to stand by tank, when someone turns key on. it should activate for about 2 seconds, with key on.(that's to pressurize your system with gas) then when cranking, the pump should run(may not hear it then-so just listen when key is initially turned on. No noise: your pump may not be working. If you can hear the pump, it may be another issue.

2002 ford taurus won't start - brand new battery and complete tune up still won't start

Sounds like your not getting any fuel..Listen for the fuel pump,by removing gas cap and put your ear up to it..cycle the key without starting it and listen for the pump..sometimes you can beat on the bottom of the tank and it will jarr the pump and it will start running again..Not a fix but a conformation

I have a 2000 blazer it cranks over but won't start.

Check for fuel and spark. Can you hear the fuel pump buzz for about 2 seconds when you first turn the key on? Might have a person take the filler cap off and listen.
If not then you should check the fuses and the relay under the hood in the fuse and relay panel. Turn the key and have someone listen or feel the relays for a click. You should also be able to see what relay is for the fuel and swap it with another one that is in there.

I always tend to lean towards fuel because the pumps will go out, many times due to people running the tank low on fuel.

Car will start but won't stay running

Is the Check Engine Light on/ If yes, go to AUtozne & get codes read and report them here.

Also, try cleaning the MAF sensor and throttle bdy with spray carb cleaner.

Check for 40 psi of fuel pump pressure. Can you hear pump hum for 5 seconds when key is turned to ON? Listen at tank at rea of car, pump is in the tank.
