Whenever this warning or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module has detected a fault, it then disables the system as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Sounds like a bad ignition switch. It has terminal 50 (starter activation) but no terminal 15 (ignition on) activation.

SOURCE: audi tt 180, 2000 imobiliser problem

I have the same problem. Short term answer for me is to disconnect battery for 30 seconds and then the car will start. I have the infamous dashpod problem and the keys and eveything are coded into the dashpod so I'm hoping when I get mne replaced the immobilser problem will go to,at least the guys who work on my car reckon so.
With the regular need to disconnect he battery I leave the three screws for the battery cover finger tight and the battery contact loose enough to wriggle off. I can do it start to finish in a couple of minutes but is a mjor pain still.

Vw beetle does not start. seems like its some kind of anti theft protection. the car/key icon lights up, it turns over for a second , then off. this is the first time this has happened, but we bought it...

First of all you need to programm all ignition keys using suitable diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com) connected to the data link connector of the car.

You have an electronic immobilizer key recognition problem. Now your key chip is not recognized by the transponder antenna fitted on the ignition switch barrel.

  • Everytime when you had a new key you must programm all available ignition car keys before trying to start the engine with this new key !!!

This warning lamp indicates that the engine is locked by the immobilizer system, and the engine start sequence must be repeat again.

From year 1995 in Audi-VW (VAG) cars is used engine immobilizer. The VAG group immobilizer system consists of an immobilizer ECU which controls the recognition of keys and the Engine Management ECU system. Immobilizer is activated when the ignition key is removed and, together with the engine control unit, largely prevents unauthorized starting of the engine. The system uses a transmitter and receiver unit in the ignition key (transponder). Whenever an attempt is made to start the engine, it transmits a new code to the car's electronics. The immobilizing is only cancelled and car motor electronic receives permission to start engine if the key sends a right authorization code.

Use another ignition key that you have, and start the engine.

Hi audi a8 v reg 2.8 sport auto car turns over but does not start on the dash the immobiliser light flashes put it on computer said immobiliser fault, any suggestion what to do

lock and unlock from the drivers door. if that does not clear it then you need to get the key fob reset to the immobiliser system which is actually in the instrument cluster. this is done with an audi scanner or VAG software. not nice!

Have just purchased a 2006 Mazda 6 Atenza and noticed that there is a light on the dashboard that is continually blinking - it is a car with a key symbol in it. I refered to the manual but it is in...

This symbol is normally the car electronic immobiliser symbol and should not be lit once the car is started.

If it keeps on flashing and the electronic immobiliser is installed properly, it will prevent your car from being started.

Flashing symbols means immobiliser code is invalid or uncoded.
    Hope the information is useful.

What does a light on the dash mean that flashes yellow, has a pic of a car and a key with a line tru it.audi a4 96plate

Katielouiser I have the same icon come on each time i start my 1996 Audi A4 and if I don't wait till it goes off before starting the car it will immobilise the engine soon after starting. But if I wait till it goes off before proceeding with starting, the engine will continue to run till I stop and turn the ignition off- only to repeat this all over again when I have to drive somewhere again. It can be a pain when ones in a hurry, and embrassing to say the least when you have passengers.

Key on engine running trouble code 55

Warning Chime Systems The generic electronic module (GEM) will sound the following warnings:
    • key-in-ignition warning
    • safety belt warning
    • headlamp switch ON warning
    • door ajar warning
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Headlamp Switch On Warning The generic electronic module (GEM) sounds when the driver door is opened while the headlamp switch (11654) is in the PARK or HEAD position, and continues to sound at a rate of 4 chimes per second until the headlamp switch is turned off or the driver door is closed.
    • When the headlamp switch is in the PARK or HEAD position, power is supplied through Circuit 293 (O/R) to the GEM.
    • When the driver door is open, the driver door open warning lamp switch (10B997)is closed and ground is supplied to the generic electronic module (GEM).
A delayed headlamps on repetitive chime will sound for a period of three seconds beginning twenty seconds after the key is turned to OFF, LOCK or ACC, the headlamp switch is in the PARK or HEAD position, and the driver door is closed. Delayed headlamps on is terminated by opening and closing the driver door again.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Door/Liftgate Ajar Warning The door/liftgate ajar warning functions as follows:
    • The generic electronic module (GEM) sounds a warning tone for one second when any vehicle door, liftgate window or the liftgate is ajar without any other door already open and the ignition switch is in the RUN position.
    • Power is then supplied through Circuit 627 (BK/O) to the door ajar warning indicator lamp which remains illuminated until all doors are closed or the ignition switch is no longer in the RUN position.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Key-in-Ignition Warning The generic electronic module (GEM) sounds when the LH front door is opened with the key in the ignition switch and continues to sound until the key is removed or the door is closed.
    • When the key is in the ignition switch, the ignition key warning switch terminal and wire (11A128) is closed and ground is supplied through Circuit 158 (BK/PK) to the generic electronic module (GEM).
    • When the LH front door is open, the LH front door open warning lamp switch (10B997) closes and ground is supplied through Circuit 57 (BK) to the generic electronic module (GEM).
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Safety Belt Warning When the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START from the OFF or ACC position and remains in RUN or START, the chime will sound for six seconds or until the safety belt is buckled. The safety belt warning indicator lamp (10C859) will turn on for 60 seconds, or until the LH front safety belt is fastened. Both the chime and lamp activate at the same time. If the safety belt is buckled when the ignition key is turned to RUN or START from OFF or ACC, the lamp will prove out for two seconds, but chime will not be activated. Any time the key is changed to RUN from START while the safety belt warning indicator is activated, the safety belt warning indicator will remain activated until either the timing sequence has been executed, or the safety belt is buckled.
