I have been looking everywhere for this. My dad's a mechanic and he was getting frustrated by me telling him I have googled before and most people said there is none. We took it to a shop to lift the engine and for them to change the water pump since that's the only way it could be done... we asked them about changing the transmission oil and filter for them to tell us that it can't be done.... thankfully for this comment I was able to find it drain the oil and change it but couldn't change the filter cause of the right fit it's easier to do with the engine out. Thanks life saver ! I bought the car from someone and they had so many services done but with the transmission ticked off... but the transmission oil was pitch black when we drained it

07 Diesel Captiva does indeed have a dip stick!!!
It is located on the front top of the transmission. Mine is green plastic, held in place by a 12mm head bolt. It is labelled so level can be taken hot and cold. Top-ups can be achieved via this hole - I used a funnel and a hose from top of engine bay.
Please check this out and beware of the other advice!

The dipstick is located at the front of the motor, just to the right of where they join together, its hard to get to but shows a hot and cold level

No dipstick it is a plug level design with the vehicle trans warmed up to operating temp around 190 - 200 and with it level and running you remove the plug and fluid be level with plug hole if a little trickles out it full if low need to remove upper plug fill and add till fluid spills out

SOURCE: how can i check to transmission fluid level in 2005 ford explorer

Does not have a dip stick.

Start the vehicle set park brake

In the side if the transmission oil pan a bigger bolt with a small bolt in the center.

Remove smaller center bolt trans fluid should drip out at a fairly constant rate if not its low.

Hope this tip helps.

Hi losflip,
There is a plug located where the right side axle shaft enters the transmission it is above the pan. To check the fluid level of the transmission the engine must be at operating temp and the vehicle must be level. The must be running and the transmission in park, the plug is then removed and if transmission fluid starts dripping/leaking out it is full. If not transmission fluid should be added till fluid starts leaking from the plug hole, then just reinsert the plug and tighten. Generally this is done with the vehicle on a lift in order to access the plug, you might be able to do this if you have enough room to access the plug remember the vehicle must be level.

You have what is called a closed cased transmission. You have to crawl underneathe to get to the tranny and remove the upper bolt close to the side of the case (more towards the bottom of the transmission). When you fill it, you fill it till it starts to drip out of that hole.

Looking for a picture for you.

Can not find the transmisson dip stick to check the fluid level any help please

Modern auto transmissions often need the oil level checked with the use of diagnostic equipment. Sometimes there is a plugged hole where a service tool dipstick can be inserted for a rough level check or to draw an oil sample for testing.

Workshop manual or friendly dealer staff should be able to provide this information. If a temporary dipstick exists you will either need to buy one or make one to the same dimensions as the Ford part.

How do I replace auto transmission fluid on captiva 2.0 D 2008?

Can't be sure for this particular car, but there should be a dipstick coming out of the transmission. This is often near the firewall, and is a bright color. The opening of the dipstick is also often large enough to allow for the transmission fluid to be filled from there. The drain plug will be under the car on the bottom of the transmission of course.

Where do u check the level

Levels:
Transmission fluid level:
The transmission dipstick tube looks like a slightly large oil dispstick tube. It is located near the firewall on the drivers side.
Set parking /emergency brake.
With engine warm and running, pull dipstick and clean off with rag. Insert disptick and pull out. Check fluid level.
To add transmission fluid, use the same dipstick tube and a kitchen funnel (good time to purchase a new funnel for the kitchen). Auto stores also sell "special" funnels with a short rubber hose attached to the end.
Not all transmission fluid is the same. Purchase only the one made for your vehicle (Volvo?)
I hope it was the transmission fluid level that you needed.

Transmission fluid

I assume u found the dipstick to check the fluid level? Use a funnel to add fluid at the dipstick tube, slowly, while engine is running. Shift thru the gears several times, recheck level, don't overfill.

I cant find the transmission fluid dip stick or where to fill it

The manual transmission does not have a dipstick. The fluid level is determined by a fill plug in the side of the tranny. If the fluid is up to the level of the fill hole, then it is full.
