SOURCE: is there a fuse between the starter and the battery that won't let the starter fire

No there is not. What you can do is crawl under the car and check to see that there is power to the starter on the large wire all the time. There should be power on the small wire with the key in the crank position. If both of the above are true than the starter has failed. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

I have a 95 honda civic ex,wont start.ran fine yesterday,wont start this morning.battery is fully charged,new cap and rotor.would do u think might b my problem

if it wont turn over 1st check the ground s on the car and the battery 1st. your battery can be fully charged and the car will not start even over night this can happen. then look at the starter. Note: if you have over 109K on the car and the timing belt has never been replaced you will need to have this checked as well.

Ran out of gas, car wouldn't crank replaced fuel pump, fuel relay, and in line fuel filter and still won't crank on 2002 chevy avalanche

still won't crank ? how's your battery ? starter ? starter solonoid ? if your engine does'nt crank , its dead ! would'nt you check the battery first ? then move on with checking the starter circuit ? seems like your putting the cart before the horse ! first of all, when you run out of gas, you need to replace the FUEL FILTER, your engine just sucked the dirt, garbage, etc., out of the tank. there's plenty of sediment in the tank, don't know how it gets there, but, you'd be surprized ! talking threw experience !!! I operate heavy equipment, its a cardinal sin to run out of fuel !!! you say you replaced the inline filter, which one, up by the engine or the main filter, under vehicle along frame ? are we talking about the same animal, PLEASE CLARIFY !

The battery is dead and the hood won't open

If the car turns over, it is not the battery or starter, so the next items to check are spark or fuel supply. One effective way to check to see if it will fire is to take a can of Berryman's B-12 carb cleaner (spray can), and spray a 2 second burst into the air intake on your car - have someone hit the starter and try to start it. If the car fires and runs momentarily, you have a problem with the fuel supply. You would then check the fuel filter and/or fuel pump or fuses to the same. If the car does not fire, you likely have problems with the ignition. In this case, you will need to enlist the help of someone who knows what they are doing. In this instance, it could be the coil, the electronic ignition module, a blown fuse, or several other things that could cause it not to fire. I would check all of the fuses (under the hood and under the dash) to make sure that it isn't something obvious before having it worked on. That way you know what to expect in the way of repairs. Good luck, and I hope it is simple. -------------------------------------------------------- Launch X431 GX3

1990 Taurus sta wgn 3.8. Sprayed starter fluid in EFI port, car started and ran for 5 sec, won't start again

Your limited information suggests that you're not getting fuel pressure to your system. Your use of the starter fluid suggests that you have been having starting problems. Can you describe what problems led you to this action? Based on what you've described, I would suggest checking your fuel pump, appropriate fuse(s), wiring connections, fuel lines and so on to make sure you are getting fuel under pressure in your system.

Replaced fuel pump but it won't start it will crank but it won't start

when you have your hood up in the air can you hear the starter trying to make a clicking sound or no sound at all with the starter ? Starters also go bad too and some times it is intermitten some times as well. You can use a multimeter if you know how to use one that you can use one to test the starter red hot plug from the battery to it.

Hummer ran out of gas and wont start

Purchase a new fuel filter and a can of starter fluid. Replace the fuel filter. Take the can of starter fluid and spray into the intake. You can remove the air filter and have someone spray into the plenum going to the intake at the same time as you start the engine. This should get it started. Make sure you have a fully charged battery. Charge it fully if necessary.
