try you map sensor or your throtle pos sens. your fuel pump is designed to run all the time. it is suppose to run through the fuel rail and back to the tank in a constant cycle.

SOURCE: Engine died while driving, cranks but won't start.

not all scanners a created equal. You need to check for trouble codes...............but it must be fixec by now.

SOURCE: No check engine light,no spark,no fuel pump,no

Either your anti-theft unit is on, or your computer is faulty.

If anti-theft is on, leave key in ON position for exactly 10 minutes, then start car.

SOURCE: 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee 8 cylinder, My "check

A failing crank sensor sometimes won't set a code, but it will not prevent the check engine light from coming on.
I'd test it with an ohmeter both hot and cold just to make sure it's good, but think your problem is likely to be a connection between the ignition switch and the computer or a security system fault (if you have one). I'm not absolutely positive, but I believe that both years on that sensor are interchangable. It is also possible that some time in the past, the engine or flywheel was replaced and required the sensor to be changed along with that repair. If the vehicle was running fine before this problem arose then likely, whatever parts were installed were just fine.
In disconnecting and re-connecting the battery it can cause a small electrical arc that will temporarily "weld" a bad connection back together till vibration or temperature change causes the connection to come apart again. That can happen in the harness connections or even on the computer internal board. Neither are easy to find and you will need to check continuity of any and all power wires going into the computer (grounds too) in order
to locate the problem.
Chilton has good wiring diagrams and I'd definitely be using that manual as a guide. If I can find a decent diagram for your vehicle, I'll send it later, but I'm not sure I have one.
Good luck and be patient!

It sounds like a shorted class2 data line to me. Is the scanner giving you U-codes? (U1000, U1042, etc.) If you are getting U-codes that is your problem.

I have a 2001 holden astra that yesterday took a couple of turns of the engine to start. Up until then it started first time. When I went to start it thismorning it turned over but would not fire. All the...

strange starting can be the oil line pressure sensor failing.if this sensor doesn't work correctly it turns the ecu spark off (oil light doesn't turn off when engine is turned over). as long as when you are turning over the engine and the rev counter is moving. if not it can be the crank sensor filed this also turns off the ignition spark. falling all that the coil pack has gone, but to check this you need a meter to check the connections.

Shut down while driving down road and wont restart what could be trouble? Tried to restart but now it just turns over

Spark and fuel. First check the spark to your plugs by pulling a boot off and connecting a spark tester that you ground to the engine block. The old mechanics just rig a screwdriver inside the boot and hold it a 1/4" from the ground while someone cranks the engine. If there is no spark CHECK FUSES FIRST . Then look to test ignition components. Crank sensor, cam position sensor, etc. IF THERE IS SPARK - Check the fuel Relay. All of these components can usually be tested free at the local parts stores. Lastly a test of the fuel pump is in order. Try a direct voltage connection to see if it runs.
Good Luck!!!!!

Autoshutdown keeps turning on

which engine???????????????????????????
ASD is tricky on jeeps.
The Auto shutdown,relay.
what is it , how does it works is covered in the fsm. read it.
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service
The ECU runs this RELAY, and if the ECU sees a gross error
it shuts this down, and the schematic there is clear as to what.
both spark and fueling.
here is what can drop it out.
1: crank sensor.
2: cam sensors or TDC ,etc.
3: sees spark dead or weak.
4: Immobilizer active. (failed)

as the book says , make sure spark is good for the 2 seconds cranking. (not after the 2seconds)
the ECU is programmed like this.
user cranks.
ECU creates spark,, using the crank/cam sensors at the time base
for 2 seconds
if the spark read back fails or the 2 sensors fail, the ecu shuts DOWN.
this is for fire prevention.
most other cars just cut the injectors, but not jeep
the drop the MAIN ASD relay.

using the check engine light flash codes, you can see which of the
3 failed, cranking for 5 second and releasing the key on all cars.
1996 and newer a scan tool is use to same effects.

now the 64,000 dollar qustion,
see page 8w-30-4
why does the ASD KILL THE IGNITION coil. easy.
1: it only guess it 2 seconds to make spark
2: if it cant,. it then drops the relay. killing fuel too.
3: this prevents the the crash and burn you see on TV.

so its 2 second permissive system. (or 3?) i forget exact seconds, its in then book and is short.
many dont know this. but is a fact.

now the flash codes.
crank for 5 seconds while in flash code mode
see emmisions page for how.

flash code 11 drops the ASD ! (cam or crank sensor dead)
code 54 cam signal dead?
code 43, spark bad.

4.0l, i6, fuel shut off

If the ECU is going bad, you will get no power to the fuel pump. Might not even be getting spark when cranking. Try leaving the ignition turned on for a few minutes, to see if the check engine light comes on and if the fuel pump relay energizes. Search this site for the Delayed start check engine light problem.

My 1995 jeep jy would crank but wont start its geting no spark and no gass and it wont tell me any coulds

Does the check engine light come on, on the dash, when you turn on the ignition, before trying to crank? If it does not light up, then your ecu might be in need of repair.

No spark Wont start it has knew cool and crank shaft senser

Check to make sure the check engine light comes on, on the dash, when you turn the key to on, before cranking. If it does not, your ecu is in need of repair. You can also try leaving the ignition in the on position for a while(say 30 minutes) to see if the check engine light eventually does comes on.

Engine turn over but do but start no fire or spark

If no spark and you also do not hear the fuel pump prime when you turn on the ignition, then the ecu has probably gone bad and needs repair. Does your check engine light come on the dash, when you turn the ignition to on, before cranking? If not, the ecu will need to be repaired or replaced. If your check engine light comes on, then maybe it's the crank sensor that's bad.

1996 jeep grand cherokee 5.2L v8 is cranking but wont start doesnt look like its getting a spark

Might be your jeep's ecu is bad. Does the check engine light come on your dash, when you turn the ignition key to on, before cranking? If not, the ecu is bad. If the check engine light does come on, it may be the crank sensor is bad on your jeep.

When i tearn the key on the fuel pump doesent come on and theres no spark it will roal over but wont start

Your ecu is going bad or has gone totally bad. If your check engine light does not come on when you turn the ignition to on, before cranking, then the ecu is bad. If you leave the ignition in the on position, for up to 30 minutes, and the check engine light finally comes on and then the jeep starts, then the ecu can be repaired. Try that and see if it works.

My engine wont turn over. mechanic said I am not getting a sprk

could be a bad crank sensor. it tells the ecu when to spark. if the crank sensor is bad, the computer will not ground the ignition coil. so in turn there will be no spark to ignition coil. but first check for a bad ignition switch. if bad it will loose its spark. for an ignition switch controls about 50% of the vehicles total power need. good- luck!!
