Just hoping for more options timing chain very costly

Exhaust might be stopped up. Check the catalytic converter and or muffler.
Good luck!

check the coil pack for cracks especially on the bottom

Try running injector cleaner like Lucas injector cleaner through the fuel system and also check the fuel pressure regulator. If the fuel pressure regulator is bad or the vacuum hose has a leak, that's where the problem may be. The other to is to try and clean out your EGR valve. A dirty or stuck EGR valve will give you the problems your described, Remove the EGR valve and clean it out with carb cleaner and make sure that the valve is not seized and can move. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to get your car running 100% again.

You can have an intake manifold gasket leak or a leak at a vacuum hose. Check the intake basket and all vacuum connections with a can of carb cleaner. Once you spray a spot with a leak the RPMs will increase. It can also be a defective MAF sensor. I would also replace the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure which should be around 60-65 lbs. A malfunctioning throttle position sensor or a crankshaft or cam position sensor can cause this. The camshaft and crankshaft position sensors are separate. The crankshaft position sensor is next to the balancer and is exposed to the elements. The camshaft position sensor is on the top of the engine toward the rear. If either one malfunctions the engine can lose power. It can also be an issue with timing but highly unlikely.
