AC/Heater not working, blower working fine.

Ok . I have a 95 Subaru Impreza and last year on a road trip in the deep south the AC stopped working. It just started blowing REALLY HOT air into the cabin. When I returned home I bought it to a mechanic and he replaced the compressor. It worked for a short while, then it stopped bought it back and he blew sir up and around the radiator and it worked a little while longer. Well, winter came and I realized that heat doesnt work. It will blow Hot air into the cabin once the car ran a minute, but Im guessing thats hot air off the engine rather that heat from the heater. Now I am trying to figure what could be the cause and what steps I need to take to fix this... Needless to say not going back the that mechanic.

Hi Chyra Matthews, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
can you get a mechanic to check the drain hose on the Air Conditioner as my car has this problem and the heat does not work because there is a tray above the blower that fills with air conditioner condensation as the drain pipe is blocked and it blows cold air and steam instead of heat .

if the engine temp seems normal on the dash gauge then it may be a clogged heater core.have the sysyem flushed-it worked for me recentlythe other options may be a heater door not closing..some are vacuum activated a flush is a good place to start..good luck

SOURCE: '90 Subaru Legacy overheating....

cool air and overheating point to low coolant level. Do you have a bleeder valve near the thermostat? You may have air trapped in the system. If no air trapped, the radiator may be plugged up not allowing proper circulation of coolant.

SOURCE: the air conditioner switches off

If you are positive it is full, then I would have someone check the pressure switch on the evaporator. When the system pressure drops, it will shut off the system. Usually people think the system does not work when I buy a car, and 9 out of 10 times it is just not fully charged. I wish you luck and have a great day.

Hi!

Those 2 problems are certainly not related to each other. The only common thing is that both problems require proffesional to solve. Most probably the AC needs a freon refill.

Hope it helped,

Subaru a/c and heater fan doesn't work

You could have a blown fuse, bad relay, bad blower motor resistor pack, or just a bad blower motor. Start with checking your fuse to make sure you have power to you blower motor.

1995 Subaru Impreza wagon - heater fan

Mine use to work on high only. It was the switch cylinders, something like that. It was an easy fix. Now my blower motor works intermittently. If I kick it, it turns back on. It is located on the passenger side close to the door side directly above your feet (below the jockey box). Kick straight up. If you need to replace it it is also an easy do-it-yourself repair. Make sure before you go out and replace your blower motor that you check your switch. A lot of repair shops will replace the motor w/o checking the switch, you end up paying for 2 repairs. You can make sure it's not the switch by jumping (bypassing) the switch. You apply jumper wires (not cables) directly to the motor, if the motor turns on you know it's the switch.
