The orange light that shows glow plug is warmimg up stays on for bout 4 seconds. i have to repeat this process bout 4 times. the motor cranks but only after struggling a little comes to life. then only after the diesel pump was reconditioned, i am finding black powder residue on the floor ( exhaust) the guy who repaired car says that when car is switched off for the night, diesel is stored in the carb that causes the mornig sluggish start and black residue

If the glow plugs aren't working the fuel is not burned and it goes out the exhaust. Of course this is a diesel and carbon residue is part of the beast.

You have one or more glow plugs that are in need of replacing. The problem can also be related to the glow plug timer circuit.

SOURCE: 04 f250 diesel cranks but won't start

this is an oil pressure problem, either a sensor is not sensing enough oil pressure, or the high pressure pump is not building enough pressure(possibly leaking or head is leaking). this engine requires 450 psi minimum oil pressure at the injectors to actuate the injectors.

Hi, 2007 Santa Fe pre heat light stays on for about one second which I've timed and won't start. Connected test light at plug to glow plug light on for 1 second

Sounds like a faulty glow-plug controller.
I have wired the glow plugs directly, and it worked fine until my brother held the button too long and burned them out.

Why does my rodeo diesel 2.8l 99 model when cold starts at accessories point & glow plug light stays on longer?

sounds as though the cylinder,s etc are a bit clogged up, try some diesel fuel addative,as with all diesel engines if they do not get long and regular journeys the glow plugs, injectors etc get clogged ,as the engine does not get hot enough to burn these deposits off on short stop start types of journey's . you are possibly looking at replacing the glow plugs but give the addative a try and if possible take for a long drive 2-3 hours at steady highish speed , ok to repeat the addative and long drive once more ,if no improvement will need to go into the repair shop to have the glow plugs seen to at the very least , good luck

Trouble shooting procedure glow plugs '93 VW Golf 1.9 diesel

What you need to do is make sure the key is off, remove glow plugs, hook a set of jumper leads to your battry, put the negative lead around the threaded part of the plug, hold the + jumper lead to the top of the plug where the power rail bolts on. DO NOT TOUCH glow plugs as they will heat up hot & fast. If the light comes on 6 - 8 sec thats how long you need to hold the power on. The tip of the plug should be nice & red hot in this time. Repeat for all plugs & see the diffrence If more than 2 are dead (no red heat) or noticably slower than the others It will be very difficult to start & the plugs should be replaced. AGAIN carefull not to get burned.

Glow plug light wont go out

Your diesel vehicle is equipped with glow plugs, and also with a Glow Plug Light that will either come on and stay on, or flash or blink when a fault is detected by the ECU (engine management unit). When the Glow Plug Light comes on, the ECU stores information about the condition that has caused it to come on.4 Jan 2016

Glowplug light comes on and goes off quikly, engine hard to start. Changed all 4 glow plugs and coolant sensor. Light stays on for a good 10 seconds when water temp. sensor is unpluged.

The glow plugs work in direct relation to the engine block temp. The relay for the glow plugs is obviously reading the wrong temp, that's why they turn back off. It's most likely that the temp sensor is bad, but trace the wires back and make sure there are no breaks in the insulation and they are well connected at the plug-ins. I have seen a lot of wires at the connector look good but fall off as soon as you touch them.

If the temp sensor is the same on for your your dash, then borrow a heat sensing gun and double check it against the guage. I have seen them read wrong by as much as up to 20 degrees. If the sensor reads rught and feeds both the guage and the glow plugs, then the problem would be either the wire harness or the glow plug relay. Hope this helps.

Could a faulty coolant temp sensor make the glow plugs run all the time on a 1983 Mercedes 300CD?

No the glow plugs circuit is separate. They actually are on a timed delay shut off. Check the glow plug relay module behind the driver side headlamp assembly. If the light on the cluster is staying on all the time it's simply letting you know there is a fault in the glow plug circuit. Doesn't actually mean that the glow plugs are staying on all the time. You might just have a bad glow plug which is breaking the circuit therefor the glow plug light stays on. To check this use a test light and have someone turn on and off the ignition to see which plug doesn't light up.

BAD COLD START NEW GLOW PLUGS STILL BAD START GLOW PLUG LIGHT STAYS ON

You have to check if you really glows comes to power that can show you the light on the dash that are working and maybe the relay of the glows does not work and you will pass voltage. Try a thick cable you put something in the battery positive and the other end touch the tip of the glow should produce a spark pquena holds about 20 or 25 seconds and give him star should work well. Thanks
