Question about 1991 Buick Regal

1 Answer

1991 Buick Ragal Custom 3.1 starts, then stalls immediately.

1991 Buick Regal with 3.1 V-6. Car ran fine, then started stalling under acceleration. It would do this spotatically for a couple of days, but then got more frequent. It would always crank back up and run. Sometimes it would do it when coming to a stop, and sometimes at highway speed. I replaced fuel filter. No change. I cleaned the air filter, and throttle body area, along with butterfly of fuel system. No change. Finally car stalled, and would only crank, then die immediately. I insalled a fuel pump. No change. I installed MAP Sensor. No change. I installed Throttle Position Sensor. No change. Put in 6 new spark plugs w/ new wires. No change. Checked fuel pressure, exactly 40psi with key turned to "on" position. I then cut the exhaust pipe in front of the catalytic converter to bypass it. The car cranked up , and seemed to run fine. I drove it around the block a couple of times, and then let it idle a few minutes in the drive way. It was extremely loud, but it ran. I welded a new pipe in place of the converter, turned the key, and back to crank and die immediately. It will run if you spray starter fluid in plenum, but not on it's own. I am now totally lost??? Any help?

Problem solved! Car running good! Bad fuel injector. Replaced injector, car cranked right up. Don't ask me why it ran without exhaust, but not with? Apparently fuel injectors work in a series. Just the one with less than 8 ohms, and it wouldn't run. Must have 8 or better. The other 5 had 12 ohms. Thanks for the help!

8 ohms or better, that is.

You need the exhaust converter so the O2 sensor can
work properly

It sounds as though the converter is blocked,as well
as the fuel trim, if that is correct term for an OBD1 System,
is not able to report back the oxygen in the failed converter

So the ecm can not provide the correct fuel mixture by
pulsing the injectors

I would also expect the timing chain to have a lot of slop
& possibly be off a couple teeth, from worm plastic gear
on cam

SOURCE: intermitant stalling hard starting replaced ecm,

Hi, first thing, is your check engine light on? if it is, you can check the codes yourself, get a paper clip unfold it so you got 2 straight ends, find your dianostics port where you plug in the scanner, take the paper clip and stick one end into the one on the far right and the other to the one next to it and turn ignition key to on position, check engine should start blinking if not move the last end of paper clip you plug into the next one in port until it does( turning key off each time before you move paper clip end) do this procedure until the light starts to blink. When it blinks count the blinks, for example it will blink one time than a pause than blink twice quick which means 12 and so on. It will start out with a 12 which means the computer is ready to give stored codes. Just write down the codes and either take them to napa, or auto zone, or to a shop you know, and they can tell you what they mean. On a car that old it could be almost anything, parts wear out, but right now what stands out to me by your description i would check the cadalitic converter it might be plugged. Take some advise get someone that knows something about cars or at least works on them on a regulator bases. That way your not playing a gessing game.

97 buick regal gs runs fine until warm then stalls and will start for more than a second. sometimes when i give it gas it will rev for another second then stall

When the engine warms up the engine computer goes into closed loop mode and relies primarily on the O2 sensors and the MAF sensor to calculate the correct fuel to air mixture - if one of the O2 sensors is fouled or the MAF sensor is not working properly, this can cause the problem.
Given the age of the car, I would also check the idle air control (IAC) and channels, the EGR valve and the throttle body for carbon buildup.

1988 buick regal stalls and restarts stalls and restarts

Sounds like a relay or coil failing.
To proceed you would need to find out if you are loosing spark to the plugs or fuel pressure to the injectors when it won't start.

I have an 1990 buick regal custom and stalls when im griving it then dies can anyone help me on how to fix it.

Sounds to me like a fuel filter. When was the last time it was changed?Because if a car starts and runs till you give it gas under load then dies it is a fuel problem.Start by chaging fuel filter and if problem still persists then next thing to check is fuel pump.

1999 Regal GS -stalls, starting trouble, won't shift now

the batt is suspect...take it to autozone, or other place, they'll check it out free......the shifting out of park is a seperate issue, the pawl for the steering/shifter is not working properly....did you notice if the steering wheel would turn when the shifter is stuck?....probably not....when this happens try to turn the wheel back and forth-not hard but not gently- a little graphite dust sprayed in there would help.......hope this helps you out

1991 buick regal starting and running problem

Sounds like your car is overheating. If you have a temp gauge it should show that. If you just have an idiot light, by the time it comes on it's already too hot to operate. AFTER the car is cooled down, open the radiator cap to see how much coolant has been lost. Chances are there is alot missing. Add WATER (no sense in adding coolant if it's going to leak out) and idle the car at home. Look underneath as it warms up to find where the leak is.

1993 buick regal stalls out when alternation wire is plugged in?

I do not quite understand what’s your meaning.

You mean take off one plug, you can run your car.

But you plug other wire to where?
