2003 vw passat 1.8 rough idle low mechanical noise check engine light on and steady

  • lk597339 Feb 07, 2009

Similar problem, rough idle in D and R when stopped. Dealer diagnosed dirty throttle body and injectors, wasnt that. Then said needed new mounts, engine and transmision, wasnt that either. Now say could be torque converter which is basically a transmission rebuild. Car is 04 passat with only 40k miles and has needed new front axle, water pump and timing belt ( fell for the line if u change the water pump should change tb too) in last 3 months. Over $3000 in the hole, my advice, sell yours now!

Dont drive make sure you get the timeing belt put on buy a good repair place. one that wont burn you up belt might be 60 bucks but that engine is 2000.00 used . the worst option is that it might need turbo is there smoke . or rough idle comeing from turbo blade will make a nose if it is going out start and listen to turbo if it coming from there turbo . i should have one used for about 300.00 plus shipping [email protected]

2003 VW PASSAT. Check engine light goes on and

8.5 hrs + parts sounds about right. But why would a 7 year old cars oil pump fail? They usually last a lifetime. Has there been a lubrication problem? Low oil, cheap oil, wrong oil? But then again my daughters 04 Toyota needed a valve job, head gasket and water pump recently. I'm doing 90% of work and it still cost about $2000. Her problem was bad oil!

1998 VW Passat it seems the idle is to low how do

Idle is automatically set&monitored with a timing sensor on the camshaft, i found my engine(1.8 20v turbo) would idle low then go high and almost stall sometimes and all i did was remove the fat black pipe on the throttle and clean inside the throat with a cotton rag dabbed in wd40.Hold the throttle open manually and clean on and around the throttle plate as the oil burnt&recycled creates a hard carbon that stops the throttle working correctly. When did you last change the sparkplugs, air filter, oil and oil filter and remove damp from the spark plug area using wd40 on surfaces applied with a cotton rag. These contribute all to your problem. As you dont state milage etc it could be a worn engine or slipped cambelt(1-2 teeth can make a slight diffirence).

Stumbling Idle

possibly ajusting itsself. any severe weather/pressure changes in your area? and if so does your cars cpu compensate for this (thinks its at a different elevation etc then resets its idle proper after a certian time? I have heard of this but not sure if VW uses it) perhaps ask the service tech.

Car runs rough and has no power, seems to be missing at idle and under throttle. Check engine light is on

check the battery then if low in electricity, then charge it if missing in Idle throttle then check and repair the fuel pump or carburetor assembly.when check engine lights on it means there is problem that is happening to the engine.like low fuel is going through the engine.and the power produced is less.

1999 VW Passat low idle

replace your fuel filter first. If that does not do it, then try an air-flow meter. (if the check engine light is on it may be an airflow meter.
