HVAC Fan Blower Problem

HVAC Fan worked intermittently and would stop. I would tap on the resistor housing and it would work for awhile then become spastic and intermittent then stop. I replaced the Fan Blower Resistor. The fan works but is still spastic and intermittent. What needs fixed?

Reasoning the problem $57.00 for a blower motor after spending $210. for a resistor and installation (which did not solve the problem) seemed the better risk before possibly having to spend $600.00 plus to have the in dash control unit replaced. It seems replacing the fan motor was the fix for the problem. It is upsetting after to have already spentthe $210.00. It was my beleif as well as several others that if the fan motor was working (even spastically) that the problem must be elsewhere. The resistor was not an easy install wipers, cowling and hearter hoses needed to be removed in order to get to it. Even then because of the angle and position it was difficult to replace. (I did pay for this installation) However the fan motor was reletively easy to replace with the knowlege that the wiper fluid bottle needs to be moved out of the way and the wheel well needs to be forced down and out of the way for the fan motor replacement. I was able to do this repair myself. It seems the intermittent and spastic blowing was in fact the fan blower motor. Thanks for all your input guys. This one seemed to defy logic in spite of all the advice.

SOURCE: Lincoln 2000 town car Blower doesn't work at HI-MED-LOW speeds...

it is called blower motor resistor , should be close to blower motor , you will see a plug type connector with two screws , remove the screws and there should be a resistor inside the cover for the motor, swap with new and reassemble

SOURCE: 1999 town car blower motor resistor.....maybe?

The Blower Motor Resistor is a common problem in your car but not for the problem you describe. When the Heat/AC won't blow on all speeds, the blower motor resistor is at fault. When air won't blow out of vents, bi-level, or floor the problem is the blend door actuator. This is vacuum driven and diverts the air to where you select. When air will only blow from one place (usually the defrost) then the blend door actuator is the problem. This can sometimes be corrected if there's a vacuum leak (usually under the hood in front of the passenger you'll find the vacuum line and can trace it backward to find a leak). If no leak can be found, the blend door actuator itself is defective and needs replacement.

SOURCE: a/c fan no longer operates.

The control module for the blower is under the hood just below where the two heater hoses go into the firewall. It is straight behind the passenger side valve cover,

SOURCE: a/c heater fan works intermittently - i leave it

These climate control systems are very complicated. It could be a lot of different things. Usually it is a relay. When it doesn't come on the next time, take your hand and bump under the dash on the passengers side under the glove box. If the fan comes on then it is your relay. Sometimes the relays don't close to provide power to the fan motor. Usually this is the problem.

99 Infiniti QX4 blower intermittently stops working

If the blower motor intermittently stops in all the speed selections. The problem will likely be the blower motor. I would not run out and buy a new motor until you inspect related components and see if you can identify other problems before ordering. It's possible that the climate control panel has a fault or the speed resistor. I would start at the blower and go to the next suspected component. If at the time the blower stops. If you tap on the blower housing and it starts to operate, that is it. Inspect the plug at the speed resistor and the blower motor. If the plugs and pins are damaged from overheating. They must be replaced before completing repairs.

2003 trailblazer blower not working

Are you saying the blower motor would run intermittently and then just stopped working? My first thought is faulty blower motor, I've seen faulty blower motors that would run intermittently. Any motor that uses brushes, you can tap on the motor to see if it will start working, that is a sign of bad motor brushes, replace the blower motor. There could be other issues?
Did you check the blower fuse, not only check the fuse, check the fuse circuit for voltage, use a test light. Check for applicable hvac trouble codes. With hvac on, check for voltage and ground at blower motor wiring connector, if both are good and no blower action, suspect the blower motor.

Locate the blower motor resistor on a 1999 dodge durango

most resistor blocks bolt to the fan housing, be causes its air cooled
and must be near fan actual so it always is cooled. see?
i just looked, its there. dead center blower case.(fsm book)

log in and read the HVAC pages.
if fan fails on high too, its not the resistor, because on high
it bypassed.
ah but not if the thermofuse in the resistor block is blown

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Htr/AC fan switch only functions @ highest speed. At lower speed settings I can hear doors opening and closing---but not air.

replace the blower motor resistor. It controls the fan speeds. It defaults to high speed only when it fails.

How to replace the blower motor resistor block: Caution: Stay clear of the blower motor and resistor block (Hot). Do not operate the blower motor with the resistor block removed. 1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the glove box from the instrument panel.
3. Pull out the lock on the blower motor resistor wire harness connector to unlock the connector latch.
4. Depress the latch on the blower motor resistor wire harness connector and disconnect the connector from the resistor.
5. Remove the two screws that secure the blower motor resistor block to the HVAC housing.
6. Remove the resistor block from the HVAC housing. Installation:
1. Position the blower motor resistor block into the HVAC housing.
2. Install the two screws that secure the resistor block to the HVAC housing. Tighten the screws to 2.2 Nm (20 in. lbs.)
3. Connect the wire harness connector to the resistor block.
4. Push in the lock on the blower motor resistor wire harness connecgtor to lock the connector latch.
5. Install the glove box.
6. Reconnect the battery negative cable.
7. Have a nice day!
