  • Anonymous Sep 06, 2012

I have a check engine light and one of the codes is P0115, looking at some other forums and online posts its saying that the Engine Coolant Temp valve is probably bad, just need to know the location so I can determine if I can do the repair myself. Thank you.

There are three temperature sensors on a 95 Previa engine. They are located on the left front side of the engine. The lower one is somwhat accessable from under the vehicle but access to the other two will require removal of the passenger seat and the access cover under the seat.

SOURCE: Where is the brake load sensing valve on a Toyota Previa and where is it.?

brake load sensor valves are normally mounted on either the diff or the body above the rear axle
they are designed to open or close, depending on how much weight you are carrying, and let more or less oil to the back brakes

Air/Fuel Sensors are mounted upstream of the catalytic converter. They are located on the exhaust manifold side of the catalytic converter (pre-converter - Sensors 1). Oxygen Sensors are mounted downstream of the catalytic converter (post-converter - Sensors 2). The catalytic converter has two chambers (left and right). Bank1 is left, drivers side. Bank2 is right, passengers side. The Bank2 Sensor1 sensor (Air/Fuel Sensor) is the one located on the 'right and ahead' of the converter. The PowerTrain Control Module (PCM) is reporting that the heater or circuit ( wiring / plug-in) of the sensor is malfunctioning.

Location of engine coolant temperature sensor

Automobiles: 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 4-cylinder 2.0L MFI DOHC

NOTE
The "left" side of the engine is the driver's side.

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is a thermistor (a device which changes resistance or voltage as temperature changes). The sensor detects the temperature of engine coolant and provides a corresponding signal to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module - aka "the car's computer").

The ECT sensor is mounted in the following locations (small Ford engines):

1.8L engines: in the cylinder head
1.9L engines: threaded into the heater hose inlet pipe
2.0L engines: at the left rear of the engine

2.0L Zetec Engine

(1) Partially drain the engine cooling system using a clean container. If coolant is in good condition, retain for reuse.
(2) Disconnect the battery ground cable.
(3) Disconnect the electrical wiring connector from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
(4) Remove the retaining clip and the ECT sensor.

Fig. 1 Escort ZX2 ECT sensor - The retaining clip is removed (at the solid arrow). Withdraw ECT sensor by gently wiggling/pulling in the direction of the dashed arrow.

To install:

NOTE
Coat the ECT sensor O-ring with clean coolant prior to installation.

(1) Replace the retaining clip and the ECT sensor.
(2) Connect the electrical wiring connector from the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.
(3) Connect the battery ground cable.
(4) Refill the engine cooling system. An inexpensive plastic "Radiator Funnel" will help with this task.
