Re: trying to locate water pump on my 2000 caddy deville
Its on the same side of the engine as the transmission, driven by the belt up top. It requires a special socket to remove the pump from the housing.(also, the pump turns clockwise to remove!)

the heater core in a 1998 Cadillac is very tricky to replace. start with getting a pressure test to determine where the exact location of the leak is, it may not be the heater core. if you do decide to pull the dash apart to change the core make sure the battery is disconnected for at least an hour to allow the airbag system to discharge.
on the front of the engine on the drivers side there is a cover over the pulley that drives the water pump. The water pump is mounted in the coolant crossover behind the thermostat housing. A special tool is required to remove and install it.
Maybe the Wrong water pump, there maybe a pump with a serpentine belt and one with regular fan belt. The pumps work in different directions. Or thermostat was put in incorrectly.
looked it up online and looks like it's on the front of the water pump in a thing called the coolant inlet housing. one end of it looks something like the letter y and the other end, where the thermostat is round. hope that helps
