1995 ford windstar overheat after replacing the thermostat

I have a 1995 ford windstar that this morning when i started it,i let it warm up and got back in and it was blowing ice cold air and it was getting hotter and was about to overheat so i replaced the thermostat but i started it back up and drove it,and it still was blowing cold air and getting hot,so i took it back home and let it cool off,i started it back up and let it idle it was still blowing cold air and it was getting hotter so it got to about the top line right under the H and i rev up the motor to about 3 rpm and all of a sudden the temp needle gos all the way back to normal and i took off driving and the heat was hot and the vans temp was normal until i stop at a red lite and was idle it started to blow cold air again and the temp gauge was going up again to the H so i rev it up again and the temp gauge gos back to normal and starts blowing out hot air all the way home and i let it idle and it did the same thing again?,i have no water leaks no where and i dont here anything weird under the hood i checked my fluid and filled it wasnt really low at all...??? my fans are working properly??? Same problem, but mine doesn't overheat.
I suspect there is a blockage in the cooling system, and that when the motor is reving, it's forcining enough hot water through the heater cores.
A coolent flush may help

Let your engine warm up with the rad. cap off and see if the coolant level drops. and make sure your overflow is full. It blows cold air because there is no water getting to the heater core. And it shows a normal(ish) temp because the water needs to be touching the temp. sensor. I really do think there is air in the system and there is not enough coolant but hard to tell from here. Also as with overheating any time make sure to check your oil and look for any coolant as the head gasket seldomly holds together if the motor overheats.

therostat. it's the hose that runs from the raideator to the top of the intake. Unbolt it at the intake and it's right there.

I have a 1995 ford windstar that seems to have a temp. problem. While driving the temp. gauge goes all the way to HOT. The van never overheats but the A/C will eventually start blowing warm air. I flushed...

oddly enough it sounds like a transmission problem, get a transmission shop to assess the problem, but first try replacing the thermostat. be sure to turn on the heater when adding antifreeze. I have had this problem with my windstar.

1995 ford windstar, 3.8L engine overheats but not all the time

are you sure its the water pump? Its located and the passenger side mid lower on the belt. One thing them cars were noted for was blown head gaskets. If you don't see any possible leaking and you smell it look at the exhaust pipe while its getting hot and you'll see with smoke come out or a lot of moisture coming out of the exhaust or a lot of dripping. Also if your radiator fans are not working and it heats up more just idling or short drives that will make it over heat and coolant to flow out of the radiator cap or over flow.I hope these things help you in locating the problem.Have a great day...

Leak near the gasget on my van

Its always a good idea to replace the thermostat housing every few years as they warp,if you dont have the extra cash you can remove the leaky one,and put the new thermostat in the block put a thin layer of good silicone around the stat, take another thin layer and apply it to the housing then you really dont need a gasket but you can still use one with this method, replacing the old bolts is a good idea also and that way you can tighten them correctly with no fear.have a good day DB

I had the same problem and it was the water pump, loosen the belt and check the pump for excessive play.
