I have a 1995 ford windstar that this morning when i started it,i let it warm up and got back in and it was blowing ice cold air and it was getting hotter and was about to overheat so i replaced the thermostat but i started it back up and drove it,and it still was blowing cold air and getting hot,so i took it back home and let it cool off,i started it back up and let it idle it was still blowing cold air and it was getting hotter so it got to about the top line right under the H and i rev up the motor to about 3 rpm and all of a sudden the temp needle gos all the way back to normal and i took off driving and the heat was hot and the vans temp was normal until i stop at a red lite and was idle it started to blow cold air again and the temp gauge was going up again to the H so i rev it up again and the temp gauge gos back to normal and starts blowing out hot air all the way home and i let it idle and it did the same thing again?,i have no water leaks no where and i dont here anything weird under the hood i checked my fluid and filled it wasnt really low at all...??? my fans are working properly???
Same problem, but mine doesn't overheat.
I suspect there is a blockage in the cooling system, and that when the motor is reving, it's forcining enough hot water through the heater cores.
A coolent flush may help
Let your engine warm up with the rad. cap off and see if the coolant level drops. and make sure your overflow is full. It blows cold air because there is no water getting to the heater core. And it shows a normal(ish) temp because the water needs to be touching the temp. sensor. I really do think there is air in the system and there is not enough coolant but hard to tell from here. Also as with overheating any time make sure to check your oil and look for any coolant as the head gasket seldomly holds together if the motor overheats.
