2000 Golf tdi - losing power and sounding loud

Hi - I bought the car 3 weeks ago and it was running great. Yesterday I was doing around 70-80mph when it suddenly lost power. It struggled to get back to 60mph and when I stopped the car then started it up again the engine sounded very loud and rattley. It drove ok for a bit but as I went to pull away in first, it felt as if I had to accelerate more and the car struggled for a little while - Again it fought its way up to 60pmh. Any ideas?

I would suspect vacuum leaks of faulty emission components.

I have a 2000 beetle tdi it started whining when

I'm shooting in the dark but that's what it sounds like----I think with all the pollution factory issues this should be covered by the MFG. Another is blown head gasket but that would show coolant in oil or vise versa. GL

2000 golf tdi - suddenly lost power then struggled to get back up to 60mph - engine sounds loud and rattley. My husband says there was no oil in the engine- he has topped up with best oil and truned it...

Hi ...... It sounds as if the turbo bearings or seal has blown, white smoke is a sign ........ or your head gasket. Try taking compression readings across the engine and/or looking into the expansion bottle for evidence of oil (head gasket def'ly).
Let us know how you get on.

We think it could be the engine management system - would recommend going to a reputable garage for it to be reprogrammed.

Clutch slipping m4 golf

Best check for this is to get the car around 30mph, put it in top gear, and floor the gas. If the clutch is going to slip, this is when it'll happen. If it slips, you'll need to replace it. If it doesn't, there's likely no issue with the clutch and you'll have to look elsewhere for the problems you're seeing.
