The car has 138,000 miles on it, but the engine is generally strong. This problem just started. It starts easily when it is warm. Just hard to start when it is cold. Pulled open air intake, found some carbon in throttle body and cleaned out, but no luck.
I believe it's your Throttle Position Sensor.

It takes about 3 attemps at about 6 to 8 seconds each. I t starts to sputter as it is about to start. I have one question though. The small sensor that is in the cold ai intake line after the filter, what is its function? Should it be pulled and checked?
I pulled the sensor from the air intake and cleaned it. There was a buildup on it. It's very small so I don't believe it is the Mass airflow sensor. Since I cleaned this sensor, it starts right up. It seems to be resolved.

its either the mass air flow sensor our intake air temp sensor. either one could be a problem , do you know your fuel pressure ? whens the last time the fuel filter was replaced?
