The other day my engine light came on. The error code is P0171 engine bank 1 too lean. I tried seafoam in the fuel tank in case there were any clogs but so far that hasn't helped. The car is stalling out whenever it comes to a complete stop. Also every now and again the car will not start back up for a while after it stalls out. Any Ideas?
Jeff Lindsey I have a 98 ford escort zx2 that had that same CEL (Check Engine Light) come one... Here is what it ended up being with mine I would go to your local parts store like auto zone or Napa Auto parts and purchase the Oxygen sensor, an oxygen sensor socket and the location of the sensor that you need to replace if you have the 2.0L DOHC engine like I have is on the front of the engine located just below the manifold cover you have to remove the fan cover from the radiator, remove the intake manifold cover its a little aluminum shield and then you will see the oxygen sensor
I strongly suggest to do this when the car is not hot. Just be careful to not burn yourself on the cover.
Its a very easy task to do. I did it on mine.
parts cost about 60 dollars or something like that socket was like 7 dollars and a normal 3/8 drive ratchet and a normal socket, also maybe a wrench set if you would like.
hope that helps.

SOURCE: Code #P0171 & code #P0174
The most common problem on a Ford with these codes is deteriorated PCV hoses. Check the hoses from the PCV valve to the intake manifold. Pay special attention to the rubber elbows. They often crack on the inside curve and the crack is hard to see.
SOURCE: Diagnostic Codes p0171 bank 1, and p0174 bank 2 (too lean)
Those codes are for the oxygen sensors, lean fuel mixture on both banks. Change them, problem with stalling and rough idle should go away.

if you hit a bump or something you fuel system has a switch that shuts the pump off. and you need to reset it if you look in your owners manual for fuel cut off switch it will tell you were it is at and how to reset it.
i think it is in the back and on the drivers side on the escort.
hope this helps
please rate me if you would
thank's

You most likely have a big vacuum leak. PCV hose split or a bad Idle Air Control motor (IAC)
