First check your oil, and change it if necessary. Low oil will cause the lifters to tap. I wouild recommend adding some high milage oil treatment, like Slick 50. If your oil is good and full, the lifters may be damaged. You can take a quart of transmission fluid or diesel fuel to the gasoline. It will cause it to smoke a little but it may free up sticky lifters. If that doesn't work, you probably have damage to your lifters.

SOURCE: Mazda MPV V6 engine noise

My strong guess without looking at it would be a cracked exhaust manifold, when it gets hot the metal expands an it doesn't leak.

SOURCE: my valves are making a tapping noise do i need to adj. valves

Before adjusting the valves, 1. check the oil level 2. use an engine cleaner that you add to the oil (berryman's or equivalent) and run thru the engine for 30 minutes 3. change oil and filter 4 run and check for tappet noise. This may improve things without opening things up.

Tapping noise 2004nissan armada all the time truck runs strong doest smoke just sound like valves tapping wanted to know if need new motor or if there is another way

If you have hydraulic valve lifters, then one or more are leaking down which increases valve clearance. Put a can of lifter cleaner in the oil and drive it for a while. If you have solid lifters, just adjust the valve clearances.

What can I do to eliminate lifter noise in my 1994 Nissan pathfinder? It just started making the noise about 2 weeks ago. Is it adjustable? Should I use synthetic oil, thicker oil?

The VG30E engine has hydraulic valve lifters so there is no adjustment possible. You can try replacing the oil and filter, substituting one quart of ATF for one quart of oil. Let it go for 3,000 miles and do it again if necessary. If after the third time the tapping is still there, you will need to replace the hydraulic lifters.

1999 suburban lifer noise

if you have a stethascope or even a wood dowel i would check the lifters. if you have higher miles this sounds like a hydraulic lifter pumping up. if you change to a heavier oil it will go away or reduce. thats the cheap fix.

Metal tapping noise at idol. it goes away as soon as you give it gas,the car runs great. i need help finding the noise.

The tapping is most likely your lifters, These makes the noise when oil is broke down or low, Maybe even a weak oil oump, Usually it is still making the niose on accl. and covers up by engine noise. Good luck to ya.

I just changed the oil in my 1999 S 10 pick up and now its making a tapping noise. What could it be?

It is most likely the valve lifters tapping. The lifters are hydraulic meaning they have to be pressurized with engine oil to correctly adjust the valves. Sometimes after an oil change one or more of the lifters can collapse (loose pressure). Usually this is not a problem, it will most likely re-pressurize and quite down after the engine runs for 10 to 15 minutes. Pay attention to the oil pressure, if your truck has a gauge if it reads between 30 to 50 PSI cold when running then you shouldn't need to worry.

Lifter making noise

depends, how long between oil changes, how many miles, try and engine flush, sometimes debrise adn sludge will cause a lifter to stick and not move freely causing the tapping noise you hear, if this doesn't fix or quiet the problem it may be to far gone, but if you really love the car get a tear down manual and go to work....put aside a weekend and about 500 dollars it'll be a job
