Adding transmission fluid
Have the car on, in park, emergency brake on. Under the hood, red dip stick. From line to line should be 1qt. This is best done when the cars warm. Add until the 2nd line. Get in your car, hold the brake, slowly put it in reverse, neutral, drive, 3,2,1 then 2,3, drive, neutral, reverse, park. Repeat a couple times to move the oil around, and you're good to go.

Hello okiecouple, my name is JShreader. Thank you for choosing fixya.com
There is no "Dip Stick" on this Transmission. Instead, there is a Drain/Fill/Check Hole on the bottom back side corner of the Transmission. Below is a picture of it...
On these Lincoln Transmissions, for proper test results you need the vehicle sitting perfectly flat (in the shop, we have equipment to ensure the vehicle is perfectly level). I went ahead and made you up the Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure in .pdf format. You can download it by clicking HERE. I hope this helps you. If you have any more questions or need any more diagrams, please don't hesisitate to ask...Thanks again, JShreader.

It is located on the transmission pan. Their is a "fluid level check screw" that you will need to take out. You aren't going to be able to just dump a quart of fluid in and be good though. These transmissions are designed under normal driving conditions to never have to be serviced and that includes the fluid. But if your like me, you like to hot rod it once in a while. Then you should change your fluid every 45,000 miles or so. The drain plug is at the very bottom of the pan. You are gonna need a little over 11.5 quarts of Mercon(R) V Transmission fluid for the 3.0 as well as the 3.9 liter. The amount of fluid needed for the transmission is the same regardless of the engine you have.
Hope this post will help someone in the future. Also their is no dipstick to check the fluid level. You have to take the screw/bolt out on the side of the Tranny Pan.

TRANSMISSION FLUID
Checking automatic transmission fluid
The 5R55N transmission does not have a transmission fluid dipstick.
Refer to your scheduled maintenance guide for scheduled intervals for
fluid checks and changes. Your transmission does not consume fluid.
However, the fluid level should be checked if the transmission is not
working properly, i.e., if the transmission slips or shifts slowly or if you
notice some sign of fluid leakage.
Transmission fluid should be checked and, if required, fluid
should be added by a qualified technician.
